MINUTES

April 14, 2015

@5:30pm in ROOM 36 (HS Computer Lab)

I.  Opening Business

·  The meeting was called to order at 5:30pm.

·  The following members were present for the meeting: Brandy Feagan, Deana Cummins, Paradise Forbes, Bryan Winkle, Shelli Johnson, Mark Jump, Susan Fugazzi, Alicia Johnson, Sonya Linder, Angel Crump, and Sheila Whaley. Not in attendance: Heidi Tien

·  The April Agenda was approved by consensus.

·  The March Minutes for both the regular March meeting and the special March meeting were approved by consensus.

·  Good News Reports

·  Congratulations to Carly Middleton and Rachel Montgomery for being selected to attend the Governor’s Scholar Program this summer!

·  Congratulations to the following 7th grade band students, who were selected to participate in the Northern Kentucky Select Band: Mandy Cloe (Saxophone, 1st Chair),;Nash Smith (Saxophone, 2nd Chair); Kylie Rice (Clarinet, 1st Chair); Timothy Webster (Tuba, 7th Chair); and Keene Simpson (Tuba, 2nd Chair).

·  Congratulations to the the following 8th grade band students who were selected to participate in the Northern Kentucky 8th grade Select Band: Emily Davis (Flute, 1st Chair) and Ariah Hankins (Trumpet, 3rd Chair).

·  Congratulations to the 7th grade band members on receiving Distinguished ratings from all four adjudicators at the KMEA festival.

·  Congratulations to the WHS Concert Band Members for receiving all Distinguished ratings at the KMEA festival.

·  Congratulations to the following Choir Students for their achievements at the KMEA festival: Proficient solo performances and proficient ensemble—Patrice Tucker, Brooke Surrett, Carrie Robinson, and Chelsea Dunaway; Distinguished solo performance—Shaleyn Jump.

·  CONGRATULATIONS TO WILLIAMSTOWN INDEPENDENT FFA CHAPTER!! Last night at Northern KY Regional FFA Competition: Cassidy Hess received a Superior on the Chapter Scrapbook, Brittany Covey received a Superior on the Chapter Secretary Book, Mackenzie Dunaway received a Excellent on the Treasurer Book, and Morgan Cloe received a Superior on her Beef Proficiency.

·  Congratulations and recognition to the following FCCLA Members for their first place awards at the State FCCLA Conference: Megan Robinson, Braydon Dungan, & Ryan Parsons. These students are now qualified to compete at Nationals!

·  Congratulations to the Williamstown Archery Team Members, who scores a 3289 at the State Competition and qualified for Nationals.

·  Congratulations to the following students who participated in KUNA: Caitlyn Treichel, Ariana Johnson, Karyna Davis, Hannah Scroggins, Nicole Hankinson, Darci Cummins, Tanner Dalton, Amber Tien, Kaylin Peer, Emily Davis, and Delaney Kemper. 1133 students out of 43 districts attended the KUNA Convention, and the WHS group was awarded the most outstanding global village, top four in native attire, top four in school sign, and recognition as a delegation of excellence. Their UN Resolution also passed the summit vote, and the group collected 912 pairs of shoes for the Waterstep program. Additionally, Caitlyn Treichel was chosen as an Outstanding Advocate for our district.

·  Public Comment—Mrs. Feagan shared with Council some news she learned today. With the ESL instructor resigning from her position, there will be a loss of courses for next year, as the instructor currently teaches a full course load of Spanish I, II, and Spanish III/IV classes. The district will not be funding the full position for next year. Mrs. Feagan explained that this will affect course offerings in High School English and Spanish.

II.  Planning

a)  Monthly Review—Mrs. Feagan shared and reviewed a list of end-of-the-year dates for April and May with all Council members and directed the Council to review the online calendar for other events.

III.  Budget Report

a)  All budgets were reviewed and approved by consensus. All accounts are in good standing, with the exception of the Track program still owing money (approximately $1000) to the Athletic Department fund.

b)  Council reviewed and approved the 2015-2016 Draft Budgets for both the junior and senior high.

IV.  Old Business

a)  Council discussed, reviewed, and revised the Attendance/Activity/Graduation, Improvement Plan, College Level Courses, Homework, and End of Course Assessment policies.

V.  New Business

a)  The following field trips were approved by consensus:

FCCLA/Hoehn / 4/15 to Grant Co. High School
FCCLA/Hoehn / 4/23 to Williamstown Baptist Church

b)  The following fundraisers were approved by consensus:

Soph Class/Forbes / MORP MS Black Light Dance 4/24
Soph Class/Forbes / Sell Drinks after School 4/26-June 4

c)  The Assessment Update email was shared with all Council members. A discussion was held about changes for the upcoming May testing season.

VI.  Know Your Deadlines

·  The Council discussed and made plans for elections for the 2015-2016 school year. Only one position will need to be announced and filled for the 2015-16 school year: High School Parent Representative. Shelli Johnson will be in charge of running the election. A decision was made to announce the open position via the parent bulletin and the website. The election will take place at the Concert Band’s Spring Concert.

VII.  Schedule Next Meeting/Adjournment

·  The meeting was adjourned at 7:06pm.

·  The next meeting will be held on May 5th, 2015 @ 5:30pm in Room 36.
