MUSEUM & present:

Middle School Science Fair – March 24, 2005

Each middle school may send five science fair projects for the Omniplex competition. The project should be a demonstration (not an experiment) about how the nervous system or nerve cells work. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners will receive a cash prize. Your school decides which projects will represent your school at the Omniplex. Awards will be presented at a reception at the Omniplex from 5-7pm on March 24th.

Examples of projects:

How does a neuron function? How does the brain use your genes?

What happens when you get a concussion? What is ADD?

How does the brain change when we learn? How does the brain age?

What happens to the brain when you sleep?

What happens to the brain when someone gets depressed?

The project must be presented on a trifold board but may include the area in front of the trifold board. Projects will be presented at the Omniplex on March 24th and judged between 12-3. You should be present during judging. See an example at http://faculty-staff.ou.edu/S/Regina.M.Sullivan-1/sciencefair.html Projects can be delivered to OU Zoology by noon March 23th, or brought directly to the Omniplex on March 24th at 9am, although it is possible to arrange for us to pick up the project from your school on March 23th.

Also, visit and or volunteer at the Brain Awareness exhibit at the Omniplex: Learn more about the brain by visiting our hands-on exhibits from March 24-26, 2004 at the Omniplex. Exhibits include real human brains, microscope displays of neural cells, as well as select games and tests that show how the nervous system works. We also provided a number of educational stations to address issues ranging from brain trauma to the effects of drug abuse on brain function. To volunteer, email Kenneth at and state your preference for day (24th, 25th or 26th) and time (9-12:30, 12-3, 2:30-5).
