25th ANNUAL SPORTS EMMY AWARDS
Highlights To Air On Fox Sports Net May 2 At 9:00 p.m. ET/PT
New York, NY, April 19, 2004 – Winners of the 25th Annual Sports Emmy Awards were presented by the National Television Academy at a black-tie dinner ceremony on Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. An impressive line-up of leading sports broadcasters, athletes and executives attended the star-studded ceremony. Fox Sports Net will air a one-hour, ‘best-of’ special, with highlights from the event, on Sunday, May 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
The awards recognize outstanding achievement by individuals and programs broadcast throughout the 2003 calendar year. Awards were presented in categories such as: Live Special; Live Series; Sports Documentary; Studio Show – Weekly; Studio Host; Play-by-Play; Studio Analyst and Event Analyst.
The Sports Emmys were presented by a distinguished group of sports broadcasters, personalities and television professionals including: Meet the Press’ Tim Russert; NFL Network’s Rich Eisen; ABC sports anchor John Saunders; ESPN anchor and commentator Stuart Scott; FOX Sports’ Joe Buck; FOX Sports Net’s Max Kellerman; HBO Sports’ Cris Collinsworth; NBA Inside Stuff’s, Summer Saunders; and Sports Illustrated swimsuit models Marisa Miller and Jessica White.
During the ceremony, Russert presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ed and Steve Sabol, of NFL Films, in recognition of their pioneering efforts and significant contributions to sports programming.
“These awards acknowledge the true quality and professionalism seen in sports television today,” said Peter O. Price, president of the National Television Academy. “We’re pleased to have such an accomplished group of honorees accepting this year, on our 25th annual ceremony.”
The Sports Emmy Award recipients were chosen by a Blue Ribbon Panel of their peers from close to 700 entries in 27 categories.
