Math

We finished our study of advanced multiplication. Now we will have our first geometry chapter. We will study lines, segments, angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals

Computers

We have been improving our keyboarding skills by using Type to Learn program. Keep having your student play First in Math at home…we are #2 in the school, # 4 in the district, #10 in California, and #99 in the US among all of the 4th grade classes!

We will be participating in the Sum Dog holiday contest this month.

Integrated Language Arts

We finish our study of Native Californialegends and fables.Now we will study Cinderella stories from around the world and nonfiction text.

We are finished our mystery lit groups and are finishing our California biography reports. The students will perform a puppet show about their person.Just a reminder, please allow your child to do most of their homework alone, the more help a student receives, the less they feel a sense of personal accomplishment. Remember, I am grading the projects based on what I know a 4th grader can do on their own.

We wrote Native American tribal reports.This month, the students will finish their Mission reports in class.

Social Studies

We finished our study of Native Californians, andare now studying the early explorers and mission period in California history. WevisitedMission San Juan Capistrano. Thank you to all of our parent chaperones that accompanied us on our field trip.

Next we will study the Rancho Period of California history.

We will make California cakes to eat at our holiday party. Come by after school on the 19th to see them!

We will soon finish the optional law simulation and assign the roles for the trial. We will reenact the Trial of Senora Peralta after break.

Fine Arts

We studied the late Baroque period, learning about Linnaeus, Handel, and Longfellow. Now we will study the Classical period from 1750-1825 and learn about Hokusai, Mozart, and Poe.

We will continue to have our monthly composer share days. Wewill soon have auditions for our class play and the play will be cast before vacation. Please help the students memorize their parts over the break.

Science

We finished studying biology, now we will begin studying geology. We will learn about minerals, sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks.

PE

We finished learning about and playing field hockey, basketball, and paddleball. Now we will concentrate on jump-roping.
