El – God - Strong and Powerful

Elohim – God = Creator and Covenant Maker

El Shaddai – All Mighty, bountiful provider

El Elyon – the Most High who rules over all kingdoms

El Olam – the Everlasting, Eternal God

Jehovah – the Self Existing One, the Great I Am

Jehovah – Jireh – The God who sees and provides

Jehovah-Nissi – The God by Banner

Jehovah-Raphi – The God that Heals

Jehovah-Sabaoth

Meaning – Lord of Hosts

First used:

In the time of Joshua…what is going on with Israel during his life? And in that book?

Background….Israel began with Abraham as the God who provides

As the patriarch’s grow they experience God as El Shadai

At the Exodus they see God as the self Existent one

During the Wandering they see God who heals them

Moses is dead….

Joshua has to lead the people into battle against armies

Joshua 5:13-15 – Meeting Joshua

1 Samuel 17:45 – David and Goliath

  1. Lord of Angelic hosts

1 Kings 22:19 – all the hosts of heaven around Him

Psalm 103:21 – all the hosts do His will

Psalm 148:2 – angels and hosts praise him (angels are hosts)

Neh 9:6 – made all the hosts

Psalm 68:17 – thousands of chariots

Mat 26:53 – God could have sent 12 legions of angels

Acts 12 Angel sent to Peter to save him

Elisha – saw the hosts of fiery ring

2 Kings 19:34– One killed 185k

2. Lord of all stellar Hosts

Gen 1:16 – Created the Sun, moon and stars

Gen 2:1 – heaven and earth and all the hosts….

Isaiah 40:26 – look up at skies and see who created the hosts

Judges 5:20 – Stars fight against Sisera (unreasonable rain)

Josh 10:12-13 – Sun stood still

Isaiah 38:8 – Sun/Shadow of Hezekiah

Matthew 2:2 – Star of Bethlehem

3. Lord of All the Animal hosts

Daniel in the Lion’s Den

Balaam’s Donkey

Isaiah 11:6 – the Lamb and the Lion will lay down

4. Lord of all Human Hosts

5. Lord of all Satanic hosts:

Job – Satan required God’s permission

Jesus – triumphing over the Devil

Therefore:

Did we in our own strength confide,

our striving would be losing,

were not the right man on our side,

the man of God's own choosing.

Dost ask who that may be?

Christ Jesus, it is he;

Lord Sabaoth, his name,

from age to age the same,

and he must win the battle

And like Peter we can have peace….

Jehovah-Shalom

Mainly a greeting…

Meaning– The Lord is Peace

Welfare - Genesis 43:27

Good Health - Genesis 43:28

All is well, safe - 2 Samuel 18:28,29

Prosperity - Psalm 35:27

Rest - Psalm 38:3

Whole – Deut 27:6

Restitution or repay, well or welfare – Exodus 22:5-6

If the word can be translated thusly…what REALLY does it mean?

First used:

Background – Judges cycle of sin, attack, repent, saving

Judges 6:23-24 – Gideon hiding

Isaiah 45:7 – Peace from the Father

Eph 2: 15 – Peace secured by the Son

Romans 14:17 – Applied by the Holy Spirit

Therefore:

Acts 12:7 – Peter sleeping Peace in trusting the Lord of Hosts

2 Kings 6 – Elisha and the horses…Elisha has peace because God sent the armies

Conclusion:

  1. We can have peace in salvation and all things because God is in command of all things
