Article I Name:

The name of this organization shall be “U4Uganda at Iowa State University.”

Article II Purpose:

U4Uganda helps promote education in Uganda by raising money to build desks for classroom use. We believe that education is improved when children are learning on desks rather than in the dirt. The way we shall raise money is through annual Dodgeball tournaments and monthly fundraising events.

Article III Statement of Compliance:

U4Uganda abides by and supports established Iowa State University policies and State and Federal Laws.We also follow all local ordinances and regulations. U4Uganda agrees to annually complete President’s Training, Treasurer’s Training, and Adviser Training.

Article IV Non-Discrimination Statement:

Iowa State University and U4Uganda do not discriminate on the basis of genetic information, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, race, ethnicity, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or status as a U.S Veteran.

Article V Membership:

Membership shall be open to all registered students who are in good standing with Iowa State University, employees of U4Uganda, and community members of Ames.

Article VI: Risk Management:

The role of the risk management officer is to help minimize potential risks for club activities, recommend risk management policies or procedures to U4Uganda, submit documentation to ISU’s Risk Management Office andto ensure that Iowa State University policies are followed at all of the organization’s events, and to ensure that proper waivers and background checks are on file regarding Risk Management for events.

Article VII Officers:

Officers will be voted in by the members of the club. If none of the candidate receive a majority in votes, a runoff election will be held with the top two candidates that received the most votes. Members interested in becoming an officer must meet academic requirements as established by the Student Organization Recognition Policy.
The term of office will be one full year, beginning immediately following elections in May.

The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled and in good standing with the university. The member must be at least a half time student during the term of office. This means for undergraduate students, they must be enrolled in 6 credits minimum unlessfewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters. While for graduate students they must be enrolled in 4 credits minimum unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement.

(b) Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, the semester of election/appointment and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration.

The officers of U4Uganda are as follows:

  1. President
  2. Presides over meetings
  3. Ensures that the organization is operating in conformity with the standards set forth by Iowa State University and Student Activities Center
  4. Supervises and coordinates cooperation among officers
  5. Represents organization on campus
  6. Corresponds with adviser when necessary
  7. Be the link between U4Uganda at Iowa State and the headquarters in Chicago
  8. Presents budget request to Student Government
  9. Emails organization giving information to members and officer
  10. Must hold officer position in addition to this one
  11. Vice President
  12. Assumes Presidential Duties in the absence of the President
  13. Helps president
  14. Reviews constitution on a yearly basis
  15. May be held by another officer
  16. Treasurer
  17. Maintains accurate record of organizations transactions
  18. Collects dues when necessary
  19. Creates a budget of all needed funds
  20. Solicits funding needed from the Student Government
  21. Corresponds with Campus Organizations Accounting Office when necessary
  22. Secretary
  23. Maintains membership directory and assists Treasurer in maintaining record of due payment
  24. Records meeting minutes
  25. Corresponds when necessary with University administration and other recognized organizations
  26. May be held by another officer
  27. Fundraising
  28. Produces and runs new events that can increase amount of money raised
  29. Corresponds with treasurer to allow them to budget the event
  30. Contacts specific entities which would allow us to host an event
  31. Finds referees for the annual Dodgeball tournament
  32. Prepares logistics for tournament
  33. There may be up to 2 Fundraising chairs at once
  34. Advertising
  35. Designs and prepares flyers and other advertising material
  36. Prepares table for ClubFest
  37. Increases group membership through visibility
  38. Contacts local news services to increase group presence in Ames and surrounding area
  39. Organizes putting up advertising around campus and booths around free speech zone
  40. There may be up to 3 advertising chairs at once
  41. Webmaster
  42. Develops and maintain website
  43. Prepares an online signup sheet for the yearly Dodgeball tournament
  44. Risk Management
  45. Makes sure risks of event are limited and coordinating with Iowa State so U4Uganda follows all procedures
  46. Checks out vehicle from the university if necessary
  47. Adviser
  48. Signs university paperwork
  49. Acts as a spokesperson and advocate for club

Officers or advisers may be removed from office by a ¾ vote of the officers and or a ¾ vote of the general memberships if actions are deemed inappropriate by the members of U4Uganda. Such actions include theft of property, in trouble for illegal activity, or not complying with the constitution of U4Uganda. The officer is permitted to speak at a general membership meeting regarding his/her charges being assessed. However, the officer in question is not allowed to participate in the vote regarding his/her position in the club. If a ¾ vote is not accumulated in either vote then the officer shall regain his position. If a ¾ vote is attained the officer shall be reviewed for further punishment of possible dismissal from the club.

Replacement of the officer or adviser shall be as follows. The president will appoint a new individual to fulfill the vacated position. Once the individual is appointed the individual will be accepted with either a ½ vote of the officers or a ½ vote of the general membership. This vote shall take place at the next meeting following the removal of the previous officer or adviser.

Article VIII Adviser:

The adviser will be recommended by any member of U4Uganda and then elected by a majority vote.

The adviser will serve yearly and will be welcomed back each year if they voluntarily decide to serve again

If an adviser is to be replaced, the newadviser must be a member of the Iowa State community and share the goals and visions of the U4Uganda.

Article IX Finances:

All money belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at the Campus Organizations Accounting Office and/or approved institution/office (must receive authorization via Campus Organizations Accounting Office). All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The Adviser of this organization must approve and sign each expenditure before payment. If the organization is dissolved all money will be immediately donated to U4Uganda.

No dues will exist. U4Uganda will receive funding through Iowa State University Student Organizations.

Article X: Amendments to the Constitution and Ratification

During the first semester of each year, the constitution must be voted on and approved by the general membership of the organization.

Proposal: One or more members of U4Uganda may draw up an amendment to this constitution at any time. The amendments must be presented during an official meeting.

Ratification: Once in its final form, the amendment must be approved by half of all members within two weeks of its proposal. The ratification can be done in a meeting or by petition. The constitution shall become effective upon ratification and shall supersede and make void any previous sections in the constitution that it contradicts. The Vice President shall then be responsible for the adding of the amendment to the constitution and the prompt submission of an updated constitution to the Student Activities Center.
