Articles (7.01)

When you cite an article found in print or online through the library databases (for example, PsycARTICLES or Expanded Academic ASAP) include the following publication information:

·  The name of the author(s)

·  Date of publication

·  Title of the article

·  Title of the journal

·  The volume (and issue number, if not continuously paginated)

·  The pages of the article

After this information, give the DOI (digital object identifier). If no DOI is available and the article was retrieved through a library database, no further information is needed. If no DOI is available and the reference was retrieved online, give the URL of the journal homepage.

Work in an anthology (7.02.25)

(For example, “Contemporary Issues” books)

List the author of the chapter, the year of publication, and the title of the article or chapter. Next, type “In” and give the name of the editor followed by (Ed.). Follow this with the title of the book and the page numbers of the article or chapter in parentheses. End your citation with the publication information for the book.

Deneen, S. (2006). Genetically engineered crops pose many

risks. In S.A. Kallen (Ed.), Is factory farming harming

America? (pp. 91-100). Farmington Hills: Greenhaven

Basic format for a book (7.02.18)

The title page and the back of the title page will generally have much of the publication information that you need. Give the author’s name, then the date and the title of the book. End with the place of publication and the name of the publisher. When a DOI is assigned, include it at the end.

Electronic version of print book (7.02.19)

Give the author’s name, the date of publication and the title of the book. When DOIs are assigned, use them as noted in the example. If no DOI is available, include retrieval information.

Web document (6.31 & 6.32)

To cite a Web document, list each of the following five items that are available: the author’s name, the date of publication (if there is no date, use “n.d.”), the title of the document in italics, the report number in parenthesis, and the URL that will take a reader directly to the document.
