Piano Accompanist
Music education, music and movement, school assemblies and community gatherings are an integral part of curriculum for pre-K through eighth-graders at Manhattan Country School. The school’s mission informs the multicultural repertoire and the commitment to building a community through music. MCS owns a Steinway grand piano (A-series).
The music faculty includes:
· 1 part-time Lower School music teacher (4-5s through 7-8s). Her Dalcroze Eurhythmics approach incorporates singing, percussion instruments, movement and dance into music classes held twice per week.
· 1 part-time choral director who introduces choral singing to students in 8-9s through eighth grade. He also teaches group recorder classes to 8-9s and 9-10s.
· 1 part-time piano accompanist.
· Part-time and temporary electives teachers for sixth through eighth grade: e.g. African drumming, handbells, musical theater, piano, choral and band ensemble, etc.
The piano accompanist at Manhattan Country School works the following schedule:
· Tuesday and Thursday mornings (September through mid-June)
· Regular assemblies 5-6 times/year (4 Upper School; 2 Lower School)
· Spring Concert (late May, 9:00 a.m.)
· Occasional special events for fundraising, community activities (advance notice is provided)
The accompanist has the following responsibilities:
· support the choral director and students (8 years old through eighth grade)
· accompany school assembly performances:
o Thanksgiving Assembly (Wednesday before Thanksgiving, 10:30 a.m.)
o Winter Holiday Assembly – (Wednesday or Thursday the third week in December, 10:30 a.m.)
o Martin Luther King Holiday Assembly– (Friday before Martin Luther King Day, 9:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.)
o Lower School Sing-Along – (Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. in November and May)
o Closing Assembly (Thursday the second or third week of June, 11:00 a.m.)
· accompany student chorus at Spring Concert (late May)
· supervise choral classes in the event of choral director's absence
