Gain appreciation for the artwork of Peter Max.

Explore pattern and color in creating an abstracted figure composition.

Monday

1.All supplies are due today for a grade. Put them on your table. Label your supplies.

2.Self-Assess Creativity Test. Your teacher will keep them safe until May 1 when we discuss

Art Show requirements.

3.Teacher-Assess Portfolio and storage of portfolios in cubbies.

4.Pattern & Rhythm Powerpoint-take notes and sketch! There is a short quiz at the end of the PPT.

5.Illustrate all five types of patterns/rhythms:

a.Using Ultrafine Sharpies in your sketchbook, write 'Patterns' at the top of the page and your name at the bottom of the page. No pencils are permitted for this assignment.

b.Number your patterns and write the pattern name.

c.For each pattern, think of a motif. You may copy ones from the powerpoint, find one in the art

room, or make one up. Draw the motif.

d.Repeat the motif as required for the design type.

e.Remember that you must repeat each motif at least three times to make a pattern.

6.If time, draw a line splitting a sketchbook page in half so you have top and bottom halves. Sketch two of your classmates. Sketch their whole body. You can ask them to pose by sitting or lying down on the table. They must be next to each other. Include what is visible

around them so you have a complete interior scene.

Tuesday

1.View the Patterned Portraits rubric and instructions. See the Peter Max Posterbook and Scholastic Art Magazine issue on Peter Max for ideas about patterns to fill in your drawing. All spaces must be filled.

2.On half a sketchbook page, sketch two or more of your classmates, showing the entire body, and what is visible around them. Take turns so everyone has at least one good sketch with at least two complete figures and a background. Fix up your sketch because you will use this for your final drawing.

3.Trace your drawing in a dark Ultrafine Sharpie. You will use the opaque projector or the overhead projector to copy your drawing onto the larger paper. For the overhead projector, you must trace your drawing onto a plastic sheet first.

Wednesday

1.Using Ultrafine Sharpies, fill in each shape in the drawing. Be creative! Every space must have a pattern. You are encouraged to repeat patterns and invent new ones. Please do not draw any trite

motifs such as peace signs or flowers unless you invent an original one. Use your pattern notes,

magazines, and your laptop for ideas. Remember Zentangle patterns.

Thursday & Friday

1.Discuss: How can you show artistic vision? Think outside the box...

Gallery

Discuss borders and covering mistakes in the negative space.

2.Collaborate with a partner and share out ideas.

Critique: Judgement and constructive criticism.

3.Journal entry: Write a paragraph detailing your progress, including:

a.your strengths in the project,

b.areas needing improvement and how you will improve them (as stated in Critique),

c.any help you need to be successful for the Pattern project,

d.any help you need to be successful for the Pattern test.
