New Year’s Resolution?

Were you happy with your state of health in the last year? Did you feel like you had energy and everything was working the way it should? Do you have nagging aches and pains in various parts of your body? Oprah, with her latest investment of purchasing Weight Watchers, is asking people to make this year a “best body” year. I like to think of good health as an investment. These days, with huge deductibles and ever increasing copays and insurance costs, it will cost you a bundle to get sick. My insurance plan went up 39% in the last two years with no end in sight and we rarely even use the insurance. As a “health investment”, good health can turn out to be a great source of wealth. Back and neck pain are still one of the main reasons for visits to a doctor, mostly to a medical doctor. These patients are treated with steroids, pain pills and injections, none of which treat the cause of their pain, just their symptoms. Remember the workman’s compensation statistics from the state of Washington that showed that if your first point of contact for a back problem was an orthopedic surgeon, you had a 42.5% chance of having surgery. If your first point of contact was a chiropractor, you had a 1.5% chance of having surgery. Thinking not only of the cost difference between these two approaches, but the effect on the lives of the patients, conservative care should always be the first choicewith the results being lower costs and faster recovery. If a problem doesn’t resolve in a week or two, call our office and find out what the problem is.

What About the Belly Bulge?

On the general health level, obesity continues to plague our health in so many ways. A study from the UK suggests that obesity will result in 670,000 extra cases of cancer, as well as new cases of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Medicine is magnificent in acute care situations, but these chronic health problems are not so well managed. You are responsible for your own health. Health is a choice, you choose to be healthy or not. No one forces you to put sugar laden products into your body. Even being fit and exercising will not overcome a bad diet. We have learned bad patterns of eating. We have to learn how to control our ways of food intake, controlling insulin levels and burning fat as fuel. The #1rated diet in 2015 to learn how to control these factors and regain health as well as lose weight is the Ideal Protein Diet. We have seen dozens of people change their lives and their health with this program available in our office. They learn how to use food as their medicine, a skill they can use for the rest of their lives. We all have choices in life. Getting sick is very expensive but getting and staying healthy, may be one of the best New Year’s resolutions you have ever made. Good health doesn’t cost, it pays with improved quality of life.
