TheCarrick Trial

The Carrick trial is set along a hillside of jumbled rocks, nothing particularly huge but with very little clear ground not covered in oddly shaped rocks. This makes it difficult to keep balanced and stay online to get good run ups to marked obstacles. So it suites a stop–start style of riding where the rider can stop and compose themselves prior to starting off again. The area’s between the sections are quite similar so even though we only set 6 sections, riders feel like they have ridden 12 when the transports are included. This was a trial where your line needed to be “Centimeter Perfect” as football commentator Bruce McAvaney would say.

Our talented and knowledgeable observers once again officiated firmly but fairly. I know we all appreciate their work very much. The Tent was running as smoothly as the little Honda Generator that powers the computer & printer.

A Grade had 2 riders and Peter Lockhart decided to debut the Raga that he recently purchased from Mal loone.

The conditions were trying as you can see from the high scores. There was a lot of hopping and bouncing required and I think the A Graders were getting a bit tired towards the end of the day. Peter was 1st and Chris 2nd in what was a tough day at the office.

B Grade had 4 riders with Kurt Pickering having a clear win this month over Peter Bayles 2nd and Dylan Bayles 3rd. The stop–start obviously suiting Kurt at Carrick. However the more flowing lines of Melrose may well suit Peter Bayles at Melrose…stay tuned. Dylan is finding the 125 a little underpowered now that he has grown so much, I hear a power upgrade is on the cards for next year….so look out Dad!

In C+ Grade Neil Berne had a fall in his second section for the day and dislocated his collarbone. This necessitated a trip to the hospital…..with Neil mumbling something about being back later to finish his ride!

All Club Members involved did a fantastic job of looking after Neil and taking him to Hospital.

This incident made the rest of us much more cautious for the next few sections.

Nigel Munday was 1st after overcoming his memories of a spectacular fall at this location last year. Ian Pickering was 2ndwith his bike handling much better after a couple of suspension adjustments in the previous month. Matt Stevens and Scott Wellman who were tied on 39 points and had to be separated on cleans.

C Grade had another new winner with Craig Ferrall riding a blinder to come 1st. Just a single point behind was Damien Langworthy 2nd , this was a very close competition. Third was Kirk Costello who was surprised himself to come 3rd, although he lives in Carrick close by.

Twinshock was won byColin Woodberry riding yet another different bike out of his twinshock collection. Which bike will he turn up on next month???

Sidecar - Harley Picket and Brian Peacock were showing how far they have come by getting their sidecar around these sections. Melrose next month will be a much more suitable site for sidecars.

Clubman had 3 riders – Brooke Luscombe 1stwas showing good control in this difficult terrain. Andrew Rouse 2nd is improving quickly and Brooke should be concerned about him at the next trial. Michael Francis 3rdis now looking at hone on the Scorpa, he is hadling the difficult rocky going much better than he did at Royal George in one of his early trials.

Fun & Games at the Trial

Did Nigel Munday come off in the same section as he did last year??? Nigel and the bike went different directions and one of the rocks has a nose shaped dent in it now.

Look Out! I hear Mike Wellman now has a Beta trials bike – I wonder which grade he will start in??

Tim Mead has a new bike also…….you can’t keep secrets from me Tim!!

A Thank you Note from Neil Berne after his injury at the Carrick trial.

I would like to thank the helpers and supporters who assisted me to my feet and down the hill to the much appreciated awaiting vehicle.

Also many thanks to Mike and Leanne Luscombe for transporting me in their vehicle, from the hill to the car park and later to the city.

Another grateful thanks to Fiona for her assistance and patience, it was comforting to know we have this professional help.

It was also comforting with the help of my family.

Lastly many thanks to all inquires and well-wishes.

Thankyou all

NEIL BERNE
