On top of your assignment, write down the title, author, page numbers, date and assigned role.
1. CONNECTOR- You are in charge of connecting what is happening in the work of literature to your own experience. The connector should make at least one specific personal connection to the literature. You may compare something from the reading to an experience you had or you observed. The connector must also make at least one specific connection to a world event, another piece of literature, a specific movie or TV show. Make certain to explain the specifics of each connection. Explain in detail what you are connecting to in the assigned reading. Your connections and explanation should be a minimum of one page.
2. ILLUSTRATOR- You are in charge of portraying an image from the reading assignment. You may choose to depict objects, a character, or scene that was important to the reading assignment. Your image must be accurate. Your image should include color. Provide a two to three sentence caption describing what you chose to depict and why. Provide a page number for reference to the image you created.
3. EXCERPT SELECTOR- Your job is to select three or more excerpts from the reading assignment. Write these passages down word for word. Record the page number and the location on the page. The quotes must be significant to the reading. Under each quote, explain the circumstances of the quote (what is happening) and the significance (why you felt it was important)
4. DISCUSSION DIRECTOR- Your job is to develop a list of at least three questions that will prompt discussion amongst the students in our class. Good questions will lead to thoughtful discussion amongst your classmates. Often the best questions come from your own thoughts, feelings and concerns while you read. After each question, provide a page number where important information for the discussion is located. Under each discussion question provide one or two specific ideas that you hope students will include in the discussion.
5. TRAVEL TRACKER- Your job is to carefully track where the action is happening in today’s reading. Tell the group where the characters have moved to and from and describe each setting in detail either in words or in map form. Be sure to give the page locations where the scene is described. Record the locations where the action in today’s reading assignment takes place. Record where the action begins and ends. Record where the important events of the action take place.
6. RESEARCHER- Choose some aspect of today’s reading assignment to research. Find information about some event or place that is covered in today’s reading assignment. Use the internet, books, journals and other sources to complete the find out additional information about the event, place or issue. Share the information with your group.
