The Mitchell County Commissioners met in formal session on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Room of the Mitchell County Courthouse. Present were ChairmanVirgil Palen and membersTom Claussen and Mike Cooper. Also present wereBill Hagman, Beloit Call;and Charlene Watson, KVSV Radio; and David Chase. Mike Schrandt, KDNS Radio, joined the meeting later.
The meeting was called to order at 8:30 and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The minutes of the March 21, 2011 meeting were approved as written on motion by Tom Claussen and seconded byMike Cooper. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
The commission met with Sheriff Doug Daugherty at 8:35 and held a 10-minute executive session for security purposes on motion by Tom Claussen and seconded by Mike Cooper. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Session began at 8:35 and ended at 8:45 at which time it was extended 5-minutes on motion by Mike Cooper and seconded by Tom Claussen. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Session ended at 8:50 with no decisions made in executive session.
John Cashatt, Engineer with Schwab-Eaton, and Larry Emerson, Public Works Director, met with the commission at 8:55 to go over the bridge inspection report submitted by Mr. Cashatt. Mr. Cashatt went over the report with the commission which noted the condition of bridges over 20’ in the County. Mr. Emerson presented the bids for road oil. The bid was awarded to Ergon Asphalt & Emulsion on motion by Mike Cooper and seconded by Tom Claussen. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Beloit City-Wide clean-up was discussed. Mr. Emerson requested a 15-minute executive session for non-elected personnel which was granted on motion by Tom Claussen and seconded by Mike Cooper. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Session began at 9:30 and ended at 9:45 with no decisions made in executive session. Mitchell County will host the Regional Highway meeting at Down Under on April 6, 2011.
The commission announced a planned retirement reception for Patricia Dowlin at the Health Department on April 8th, 2011.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:50 on motion by Tom Claussen and seconded by Mike Cooper. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
The regular monthly department head meeting was held at 10:00. Those present included: Becky Schaefer, Scott Davies, Doug Daugherty, Geri McCune, Brian Streit, Patricia Dowlin, Larry Emerson, Kitty Wagner, David Thornton, Yvonne Melton, Ed Debesis, and Sondra Hone. Each department gave an overview of recent happenings in their departments. The meeting ended at 11:00.
