General Summary
Creativity, passion and clarity of mission are key. Plans and develops policies, priorities, and philosophy for the education division. Supervises public programs, school tour program, outreach activities, docent program, educational media services and student exhibition gallery. Collaborates with Curatorial Department to produce content for permanent collection and special exhibitions. Oversees Visitor Services functions and sales.
Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions- Directs the overall interpretive and educational efforts of the Museum.
- Supervises school, family, adult and teacher programs.
- Directs long-range planning for the evaluation of exhibitions and public programs.
- Develops collaborative programs with area residents, organizations,cultural and educational institutions.
- Outreach to engage public with all educational initiatives
- Researches the collection and special exhibitions to develop lectures, courses and public presentations.
- Serves as staff liaison and advisor to the Docent Council and is responsible for leadership, docent recruitment, training, retention, continuing education, and publication and recognition activities.
- Represents the Museum at local, regional and national conferences and events.
- Supervises full and part-time staff in Education Department as well as interns and volunteers.
- Prepares/oversees weekly, quarterly and annual statistical reports, annual budgets, long-range plans, grant narratives and grant reports.
- Other duties as required by the Executive Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION
Education:MA degree in art history, art education or museum education, or BA degree with exceptional level of work experience.
Professional Experience:Five to seven years’ experience in art or museum education and staff and volunteer management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of educational theory and curriculum design including arts-integrated interdisciplinary lesson development, best practices in museum teaching, and museum learning trends. Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Outgoing, creative, self-motivated, and well organized. Strong leadership, management, and mentoring skills. Supervisory and interpersonal skills to work with staff, docents, trustees, artists, area faculty, guest curators, community leaders and school administration. Bilingual a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and MS Word, Excel and DonorPerfect.Must be able to lift 25lbs.

Desirable functions: Experience as a volunteer.
Additional Education, Certification or Professional Designations:Museum Education
Working Conditions:Normal office environment. Local and some statewide and out of state travel. Some evenings and weekends required.
Supervisory responsibilities:Supervises full and part-time employees as well as interns and volunteers.
