The Migrant Children's Foundation

Inspire and be inspired

The Migrant Children’s Foundation (MCF) is a non-profit organisation whose sole aim is to enrich and develop the lives and education of migrant workers' children in and around Beijing, China. We achieve this by providing a variety of resources from English speaking teachers, Chinese University volunteers, organisations such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics and the Beijing United Foundation and Hospital. For years, the generosity of other organisations such as the Australian Embassy Social Club, British School of Beijing Sanlitun PA and Roundabout, to name but a few, have all responded with commitment and resources on numerous occasions.

The organisation is staffed by a dedicated team of long-term volunteers who organise and manage MCF events and programs, and maintain relationships with migrant schools and parents.

These volunteers are the backbone of the Foundation. They are giving of their free time at both weekdays and weekends on a regular basis and deliver quality programs of education and activities to a large number of children.

In the early days of MCF, some of our volunteer teachers noticed the children had difficulty seeing the board clearly. This launched the first of our two health programs i.e. Glasses Galore, whereby all the children receive eye examinations and are provided with glasses where necessary.

The second health program involves a full medical check up on each child to ensure their physical well being. To date, 1600 children have received checkups. As a result of these checkups, a 9 year old boy, Tao Song, was diagnosed with three holes in his heart. He underwent micro-surgery initially but it was found necessary to have a second operation which involved open heart surgery. Beijing United Foundation covered all the expenses without question. Suffice to say, Tao Song now leads a normal healthy life.

As is normal, the story does not end here. At present, MCF are supporting two other young children, Hui Fan and Peng Chuanyu who both have physical disabilities.

There will always be children in need and one of MCF's beliefs is "Make a Difference". We propose continuing to do this but it cannot be done without the commitment and generosity of individuals and organisations that have the same beliefs.

Many thanks,

Helen Boyle –MCF Director
