Memoir - Project

Memoir(from French: mémoire: memoria, meaning memory or reminiscence), is a literary nonfiction genre. More specifically, it is a collection of memories that an individual writes about moments or events, both public or private that took place in the subject's life.

The memoir you choose must be AT LEAST 200 pages

and cannot have been made into a movie.

To reflect your understanding and analysis of the memoir you read, you will complete this three-part project over the next few weeks. Each part has a separate due date and specific requirements and will include a separate rubric and point values. The parts of the project are listed below:

Book Review

The review will include summary details about the book, as well as your opinion about its strengths and weaknesses (remember: strengths and weaknesses about the writing not the person) and whether or not you recommend that other students read the memoir. You will support your opinion with facts, detailed explanations, and evidence from the text. Finally, rate the book on a scale of 1-5. Look at published book reviews for examples.

Due date: ______

Character Road Map

The memoir focuses on the life experiences of a person, so your road map will chronicle those important moments as a metaphoric map. Your map will highlight 10 important events and will include both a visual symbol and a direct quote (MLA format) from the text that represents that event. Your map must be on unlined paper (8 ½ x 11 inches), and it must be colored by hand or printed in color.

Due date: ______

Video Story

Following the format of the Visa Gold Go World Olympic commercials, you will tell the story of your memoir character in a 30-second video with words, photos and music that match the mood of the story. You will be taught how to use Animoto and iMovie to complete this task, but you will be free to use other video software, tools, or apps. The video will be presented to the class on the due date with a typed script submitted to the teacher
