Minutes from October 16, 2017
The meeting was called to order by PTSO President Jennifer Deutschendorf at 6:45pm in the cafeteria.

President’s Report
Jennifer welcomed those present and outlined topics to be discussed.
Motion: Approve meeting minutes from September 18, 2017. Motion Carried
Treasurer’s Report
PTSO insurance was renewed and paid for. The PTSO has a tax id, but no certificate from the IRS regarding tax free
-$345 Membership
-$300-$400 T-shirt sale (sold @ 145). Push t-shirt sale at Fun Day. Forms are behind the door in the front office. Suggestion to post on Beville web-site under PTSO and Mr. Simpson is willing to manage. Will send pics of a digital order form (pdf that can be printed out and sent with kids)
Principal’s Report
Benton is hosting a Cyber Facebook Intelligence Workshop for Parents on October 25, 2017
Potomac is also hosting a similar event but not sure when
Idea to have a “Day in the Life of a Middle Schooler” (Similar to Watchdogs-Fathers). Could use sign-up genius for dates/times
New Business
- Ideas for PTSO Web-site: Announcements (sign-up genius); In school volunteers; Minutes; Advertising; Calendar dates – upcoming events; Jen to post to Facebook and email to Mr. Simpson
-Fun Day will be on October 27, 2017 – 3-5 volunteers are needed at 2pm. The first one will be $5, then $6 after that. Would like ideas for remaining fun days.

-Zombie Prowl will be on October 28, 2017 hosted by Mr. Broiles
- Obstacle course – station to station – chased by zombies
-Book Fair week of October 16, 2017
- Students can go during Language Arts of free time. Scholastic for this book fair. Library will host and use Bookworm for the next one in the Spring which is local in Manassas. Usually has a multi-cultural night and book fair open in the evening. Recommend doing robo calls to announce
-Parent Information Meetings
- Stonewall – October 23, 2017, 7-9pm
- Garfield – October 24, 2017
- Battlefield – October 28, 2017 Parent Summit
-Tower Garden – Greenhouse on Wheels
- Patriot and Woodbridge or Garfield have tower gardens. There is a video on PWCS web-site
- Kathy will bring a unit in to show the teachers @ 9am on Tuesday, 7 November 2017. The teachers would maintain it-geared toward STEM. Email the teachers. Use money from last year to gift/make contribution. Need to determine where it will live, who takes care of it, curriculum (possibly Ms. Ray, Science department)
- Cost is $525/unit, $219 for grow lights, plus shipping. There is a lifetime warranty on the unit itself
-The PTSO agreed to donate $500 in the form of a checkto Mr. Turner for the purchase of band instruments
-Ms. Afful mentioned they are going to have a hallway competition – who has the cleanest hallways. Every week they will determine points. Would like to use Beville bucks, something off of Broiles cart, and popcorn as the prizes. Will need to get oil from Ms. Moore
-$20K-IPAD/IPAD cart
-Laptops-10 robotics (Kramolisch)
-Ms. Shnayer-Figie voted in as Secretary for PTSO for 2017-2018 school year
-Restaurant Nights – recommend Five Guys and Fudruckers. Get with Ms. Peggy for 4/5 dates and confirm which ones we will use. Recommend first one for week of November 13, 2017 or first week of December 2017
