M.A.C.C. Meeting

October 7, 2009

Regular Meeting

The meeting was brought to order by President Ervin.

The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.

The minutes were approved as read by the Membership. (Corinne Antoszewski, Secretary.

FINANCE Nan Pischke

As of October 7, 2009 the balance in the Treasury is: $2,075.78. The Treasurer’s Report will be filed for Audit.

PUBLIC SAFETY Stacey DiRenzo

Ms. DiRenzo stated that the Zone 4 & 5 Citywide Meeting would be on October 13, 2009 at the Teamster Temple, Lawrenceville at 6 p.m.

A MOTION WAS MADE TO GIVE ZONE 5 CITIZEN’S PUBLIC SAFETY COUNCIL A DONATION OF FIFTY ($50) FOR THE ANNUAL CITYWIDE MEETING. FOR REFRESHMENTS.

A discussion was held, a vote taken and the Motion passed.

COMMUNICATIONS John Santore

Mr. Santore stated that the Newsletter will be mailed within the next couple of days.

Mr. Santore stated that Ms. Diane Wolcheck has been selected as a Consultant that would simplify the Communications for M.A.C.C.. It has been negotiated but not executed. The M.A.C.C. needs to get a contract written up by the M.A.C.C. and the URA before M.A.C.C. can proceed. It should be finalized within the month.

NEWSLETTER Amy Ervin

Ms. Ervin stated that the Newsletter will be mailed on October 8, 2009. Ms. Ervin stated that 1800 will be mailed to the residents and 100 will put throughout the businesses, she also stated that she is only a temporary Editor and that position needs to be filled. The cost of the mailing will be $313.12.

Acting Commander Kevin Kraus gave a brief statement and stated that he is enjoying working with everybody in the communities and his door is open for any problems.

EVENTS Mural Dedication, Katy Jones

Ms. Jones stated that so far two (2) bands have been booked for the event, and it will be on Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 4-6 p.m., rain or shine. It is still in the final planning stage.

Ms. Nan Pischke one of the committee stated that on the permit it states that there has to be a policeman at the event. Ms. Pischke also stated that the cost of a policeman would be forty four dollars and eighty four cents ($44.84) per hour with a guarantee of four hours. Commander Kraus stated that he could send a policeman from Zone 5 to the event. Ms. Pischke was to give him a reminder call.

PORT AUTHORITY COMMITTEE

The Port Authority Transit Plan was discussed. Mr. Matt Diersen stated that one hundred and seventy one (171) responses were collected from residents. Highland Park Community Club/M.A.C.C./STANTON HEIGHTS have all been working together on the Transit problems brought on by the Port Authority’ Plan.

Mr. Diersen also stated that all involved would try to follow up and keep them engaged. P.A.T. also stated that they might try a trial run with the plan going through Morningside, but the Community has to use it.

The first phase of the plan will come in effect in the spring of 2010.President Ervin stated that the Route 28 Detour will end at the end of October 2009 and needed feedback from residents as to their feelings about the detour, traffic flow and if Butler Street should stayed lined the way it is now. He stated that the community can send their comments to Councilman Dowd or to M.A.C.C.

HOUSING/COMMUNITY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT Matt Diersen/Grant Ervin

Mr. Diersen stated that the property at 5433 Jackson Street which would like to make the property three (3) units instead of two (2) is once again moving forward after a brief delay. The Zoning Board has stated that the owner of the property Gary Dorso wanted to abandon the property , but didn’t put it in writing. The date for the Hearing for this property will be on October 22, 2009.

The property at 6923 Standish Street has filed for a variance for a garage.

Groundbreaking has been done on the property at 1742 Morningside Avenue. The property to be built is 5,000 square feet. Future tenants are State Representative Dom Costa and District Justice Ron Costa. The third unit has not been rented yet. It might be a two (2) unit building instead of three (3).

President Ervin stated that the new street lights that will replace the current cobra lights will be installed in about six (6) to eight (8) weeks.

President Ervin stated that the BULLDOG GRILL is asking for memorabilia from the Morningside Bulldog’s that they will put up at the Grill. This sounds like a good sign as to whether or not the Bulldog Grill will go forward with the restaurant in Morningside.

President Ervin also stated that the property on Baker Street where the fire occurred is still in the works. A lot of work needs to be done with planning and working with Public Works, Department of Finance, site acquisition, etc. before this comes to fruition to develop an overlook at the site.

BEAUTIFICATION Amy Ervin

Ms. Ervin stated that the Clean Up will be on October 17, 2009, meeting at 10 a.m. at the Morningside V.F.W. So far she has forty (40) Pitts Students signed up. The Clean Up will be on Baker at Stanton, rake Natoli Field.

Ms. Ervin also stated that on November 7, 2009 the trees will be coming in for the fall planting. To be planted.. Ms. Ervin needs help in this project.

Ms. Ervin explained the future recycling of the whole business district. The city does not pick up recyclables for businesses.

NOMINATIONS John Santore

Mr. Santore stated that there will be an Election at the December meeting. Offices up for election are President and Secretary. The Committee must include: one (1) general member, one (1) random individual and one (1) member of the Executive Committee (not running). To vote you need to have joined ninety (90) days prior to the meeting and you have to be present to vote.

Mr. Santore also stated that the in 2010 the Insurance Policy needs to be looked at.

NEW BUSINESS

City Councilman Patrick Dowd will have his Mobile Council Meeting on October 28, 2009 at the Morning Glory Coffee Shop from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Christmas trees will once again be sold at the front entrance of Morningside School.
