Terms and Conditions

The Luminate Photography Challenge is a new project that invites people of any age in Scotland to create a photographic portrait of someone from a different generation. A selection of the best entries will form a touring exhibition which will be displayed during Luminate this October, while others will be exhibited online.

Entries

Luminate will accept portraits created on any camera device. Entered portraits must comply with the following criteria:

  • Participants entering a photograph must be based in Scotland.
  • Participants entering a photograph can be of any age but the portrait entered must be of someone from a different generation to the photographer.
  • Digital images submitted via the email address must be no larger than 8MB in file size.
  • Participants can enter one image.
  • Participating photographers must own the copyright for the image entered. This means that participating photographers must only enter photographs they have taken themselves toThe Luminate Photography Challenge.
  • Participating photographers must obtain consent from all people featured in the portrait before entering The Luminate Photography Challenge. This consent must include agreement to the potential use of the image as outlined below. If the subject of the photo is under the age of 18, consent must also be obtained from their parent/guardian. This is the responsibility of the participating photographer.

How will my image be used?

Throughout Luminate in October 2015, a selection of photographs that meet the criteria will be published on the Luminate website:

In addition, a selection of images and associated information will be included in a series of pop-up exhibitions in public buildings and venues across Scotland during Luminate 2015. Images will be selected to show a breadth of creativity and stories represented in The Luminate Photography Challenge.

The selection panel will include Luminate’s Director Anne Gallacher, and Photographers Robin Gillanders and Rachel Thibbotumunuwe.

Copyright for all images submitted to The Luminate Photography Challenge remains with the respective participating photographer. Where an image is used, the photographer will be credited.Luminate reserves the right to reject any submitted image.

Additionally, each participating photographer grants Luminate a licence to feature The Luminate Photography Challenge images in any publication, website or promotional material produced by Luminate for a period of 3 years beginning on 7 September 2015 and ending on 7 September 2018. The photographer also confirms that s/he has obtained permission for the image’s use in this way from the portrait subject(s), and if the subject is under the age of 18 from their parent/guardian.

Images may be used:

  • as part of in–house reports and documents to evidence the impact of Luminate’s work
  • as part of reports for funders and supporters including Creative Scotland,theBaring FoundationandAge Scotland.
  • for marketing purposes including the Luminate website and brochures

How to enter

Please email your photographic portrait along with a completed EntryForm.

It would really help the Luminate team if your submission can be entered via email.However, if this is not possible please send your photograph in print or on a CD along with a completed Entry Form to:
