THE LORD’S SUPPER

1 Corinthians 11:23-34

For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.

And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

Chant: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen! Amen!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

January 4, 2009

Here it is the first Sunday in the year of 2009. Usually at the beginning of a new year, there is this profound statement (or some variation thereof): “Wow! A brand new year. Where did the time go? It seems like we just entered into (whatever the year) and now we are in a new year.” Where did the time go? It passed in orderly transition. There were twelve months, fifty-two weeks, 366 days, 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes and 31,536,000 seconds in the year of 2008. The Divine Timekeeper of the Universe, the One who sits outside the realm of time, yet orchestrates time, has allowed us to enter into this new year. The question then is not where did the time go, but rather, what did we do with the time He allocated to us? The prayer of Moses, the man of God (and it should be ours as well) is “teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

It is this Pastor’s desire that we will all live our lives in such a manner that will continuously glorify God. Knowing that He said: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father, who is in Heaven.” Dear Ones, may I tell you that God has brought us hitherto for such a time as this. Fearlessly, we enter the new year, knowing that we can make a difference. We are not held captive by our circumstances, but rather, God has left us here to influence our circumstances. To Him be glory in every age.

Have a happy and prosperous new year.
