Senior Grants Officer

Who are we?

The London Marathon Charitable Trust is an independent grant making charity which provides grants for capital projects implemented by organisations and communities that are committed to inspiring and enabling more people to take part in physical activities. Founded in 1981, the Trust currently awards about £5m each year although this amount is expected to grow significantly.

The Job

We are looking to recruit a full time Senior Grants Officer to assist our Chief Grants Officer to ensure that the right facilities are delivered in the right places to encourage and supportparticipation in sport and physical activity across London and beyond. The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • To identify and support high calibre applications to The Trust and to ensure that funded projects maximise their ability to deliver their objectives in order to achieve The Trust’s charitable objects
  • To assess applications on their feasibility, likely impact and sustainability and to make recommendations to the Trustees
  • To oversee the implementation of capital projects
  • To monitor and evaluate the impact of The Trust’s funding
  • To develop and maintain relationships with key local partners at a senior level

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of capital projects, sports development programmes or multiagency investment programmes
  • Experience of managing or overseeing large scale budgets
  • Experience of strategic planning within a relevant environment
  • Knowledge of planning regulations and the sporting environment
  • Knowledge and experience of grantmaking processes
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, advocacy and influencing skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Knowledge and or experience of monitoring and evaluation
  • An ability to work with a range of stakeholders, internal and external, including senior staff, grantees, Trustees, policy makers and practitioners
  • An interest in charitable activity and the work of The Trust
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to work flexibly in a busy environment
  • A helpful and friendly attitude and demeanour

The role requires some evening and weekend working.
