The `Llwyn' family is descends through Wiliam Wyn, Glyn Cywarch, in Merioneth, from Osbwrn

Wyddwalch (often heard as Osbwrn Wyddel), one of the ancestors of the Wynns of Penniarth and

many other families. They descend also through Cathrin, wife of this William Wyn, who was the daughter of William Lewis Anwyl, of Parc, Llanfrothen; from the prince Owain Gwynedd, son of

Prince Gruffydd ap Cynon, a descendant of Rhodri Mawr. They have an old connection with the

Nanneys through Gwenllian, daughter of the said Gruffydd ap Cynon, because this family comes

from Cadwgan ap Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, prince of Powys. Apart from this there is a connection because

Elis, 3rd son of William Wyn and Cathrin, married, on 4th January 1639, Lowri, daughter and heiress

of Edward Thomas ab John of Cwm Nantcol, who was brother of the noted John Jones, who was born

in Cwm Nantcol, a descendant of the Nanney family, who married a daughter (should be sister) of Oliver Cromwell. John Jones was one of those who signed Charles I death warrant.

A nephew to Elis and Lowri was Rev Elis Wyn of Lasynys, (whose second wife was Lowri Llwyd of

Hafod Lwyfog), the famous author called `Y Bardd Cwsg'. Lowri, a daughter, married Rev John

Hughes, minister at Llandanwg and Llanbedr near Harlech. Their daughter, Ann, married John

Hartley (brother of Robert Owen, or in full Robert Hartley Owen, grandfather of Mr Reveley,

presently of Bryn y Gwin). They went to live at Gyffyllog Island, in the parish of Llangelynin.

Thomas Hartley, 2nd son of the last named, who became Deputy Lieutenant for Merioneth, married

Mary Nannau, daughter of Rev Robert Nannau of Llwyn. They were parents of the late Anne Hartley

of Llwyn and also Mary, wife of Gruffydd Williams, solicitor, parents of Thomas Humphrey

Williams of Llwyn, JP for Merioneth.

This Thomas Humphrey Williams, and two sisters, are still living and brothers are Robert Nannau

Williams and Meurig Meredydd Williams, the latter a doctor.

As has been said, Elis was 3rd son of William Wyn and Cathrin and was husband of Lowri. William

Lewis Anwyl was a son of Lewis Anwyl and Elizabeth, daughter of Morys ab Ifan, Plasynywern.

Lewis anwyl was a son of Robert ab Morys, of Parc, and Lowri, daughter of Lewis ab Ifan ab Dafydd

and his wife Catrin, daughter of Meredydd ab Ifan ab Robert of Gwydyr. Robert ab Morys was a son

of Morys ab Sion ab Meredydd and Angharad, daughter of Elisau (Elis) ab Gruffydd ab Finion.

This Morys ab Sion ab Meredydd was son of Sion ab Meredydd and Gwenhwyfar, daughter of

Goronwy ab Ifan of Collwyn.

Sion ab Meredydd was son of Meredydd ab Ifan and Angharad, daughter of Eirion ab Ithel, heiress of

Rhiwaedog. Meredydd ab [fan was son of Ifan ab Meredydd and Lleuci (Lucy), daughter of Hywel Sele of

Nannau.

Ifan ab Meredydd was son of Meredydd ab Hywel and Morseydd, daughter of Iorwerth Goch ab

Dafydd ab Trahaiarn. Meredydd ab Hywel was son of Hywel ab Dafydd and Eta, heiress of

Ystumcegid, daughter of Ifan ab Hywel ab Meredydd. Hywel ab Dafydd was son of Dafydd ab

Gruffydd and Anne (or according to another source, Efa) (not possible to follow line in detail),

daughter of Gruffydd Fychan ab Moriddig. Dafydd ab Gruffydd was son of Gruffydd ab Cariadog

and Lleuci (Lucy), daughter Llywarch Fychan ab Llywarch. Gruffydd ab Cariadog was son of Cariadog ab

Thomas and Eva, daughter of Gwyn (or Cynon) ab Gruffydd (ab Beli according to another source).

Cariadog ab Thomas was son of Thomas ab Rhodri, and Annes (or Marged), daughter Einion ab

Seisyllt. Thomas ab Rhodri was son of Rhodrian Ywain Gwynedd and Annes (Agnes in another

source), daughter of Lord Rhys. Rhodri ab Ywain was son of Ywain Gwynedd and Christian,

daughter of Goroanwy ab Ywain ab Edwyn. And Ywain Gwynedd was son of Gruffydd ab Cynon

and Angharad, daughter of Ywain ab Edwyn.

Then follows a praise poem following the death of Robert son of Morus ab Sion ab Merdydd of Parc,

composed by William of Lleyn.

Note:

The patronymic ap is given as ab above although this latter should be the case only before a vowel

- ab Ifan but ap Goronwy etc.

A footnote to the article says that the other source mentioned is in table i. yn the History of the

Gwydir family published in 1878 but there are some areas where things are not too clear.
