The Living Memorial Guidelines of the Greens Home Owners Association

It shall be the aim of the Greens Association’s “Living Memorial Guideline” to provide its residents and their families a way to remember those who have been part of our community through “living memorials”.

“Living Memorials” are defined as specimen trees or shrubs as detailed by the Long Range Master Landscaping Plan.

Selection and Placement of the Living Memorial

The selection of specimens for memorials will be in accordance with the Long Range Master Landscaping Plan adopted by the Board of Directors.

The placement of “Living Memorials” will be in the Greens’ Common Areas.

The identification of any given “Living Memorial” shall be determined by the Greens Landscaping Committee and as approved by the Board based upon the Long Range Master Landscaping Plan. A listing will be maintained for families to review for their consideration for a “living memorial”. The list shall identify specimens and location and be based on the Long Range Landscape Master Plan.

The Memorial Plaque

An engraved plaque, shall be placed in close proximity to the memorial. The cost of the Memorial Plaque is to be included in the cost of the “Living Memorial” selected. The engraved lettering on the plaque will be black. The information on the plaque shall include this:

In Memory of

(Name of the Person)

(Birth: Day/Mo./Yr. – Death: Day/Mo./Yr.)

(Name of Family or Person[s] Providing the Memorial)

All Memorial Plaques will be uniform throughout the Greens Common areas. Should the family desire additional information to be part of the memorial, this may be included in the Memorial Book.

Memorial Book

A Memorial Book shall be maintained by the Secretary of the Board. The Memorial Book shall provide a place for the information cited on the plaque, and in addition, the date of the person’s residency in the Greens, the names of surviving family members, and if it should be desired, the clipping of the obituary, and possibly a brief anecdote or two by the family and their extended “Greens” family. The Memorial Book shall be on display at all Annual Meetings and be part of the public record of the Greens Association.

Forms

A form to be completed will be available from the secretary of Board of Directors. This form will provide information for the plaque as well as a designation of the “living memorial” desired in accordance with the Master Landscaping Plan. Determining the specifications for the memorial --- specimen, size, and placement --- will reside with the Landscaping Committee and the family member(s) who are establishing the “living memorial.”

Care and Maintenance

Care and Maintenance will be under the direction of the Greens Landscaping Committee. This committee functions under the direction of the Board of Directors. No fee is required for this service. Care and maintenance of the Commons Areas are covered through the Greens’ assessment fee.
