ABOUTTHE LEADERSHIP TRUST FOUNDATION

The Leadership Trust Foundation (LTF)was founded in 1975 to enhance and influence leadership and leadership development in all aspects of Society. It was born out of the acknowledgement that poor leadership was impacting on the performance and progress of the UK. The causes may have changed but addressing this issue remains as relevant today as it did then. Our core philosophy that we need to know and control ourselves first, before we can lead and enable others effectively, underpins our approach to leadership development. The charitiesobjects are:

(1) to advance education and research in the fields of management and leadership and the training of effective managers and leaders;

(2) to advance the education of the public in their knowledge and understanding of the principles of effective leadership; and

(3) to encourage and support individuals who are or wish to be in positions of leadership to learn about and develop leadership skills.

Our mission is to influence leadership, develop inspirational leaders and support leadership development through the services we provide to organisations, teams and individuals. All our courses and programmes are consistent with this mission. Our open courses andorganisational programmes have been used by 50,000+ managers at all levels, including Board, covering most UK industry sectors as well as international. We are a recognised leader in the field of experiential learning for leadership effectiveness; skilfully blending theory with practice and feedback to develop authentic, high performance leadership.

We collaborate with a number of organisations including The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO). They are the leading voice of the UK’s charity and social enterprise sector and we are pleased to assist them in helping develop leadership skills in this vital sector.

FUTURE STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

Since the formation of LTF the importance of leadership development in organisational effectiveness has become more widely accepted and other training organisations are providing these learning opportunities using an experiential approach. It is recognised that LTF cannot stand still. It needs to develop innovative solutions to the leadership challenges of the twenty first century, state-of-the-art ways of working with more sophisticated client organisations and expand on its public benefit offerings.

We are currently in the process of reshaping to create a more flexible provision model following the disposal of our premises in Weston under Penyard. This has strengthened our financial position giving us the opportunity to create an ambitious, agile organisation with a better balance between its core objectives of training, research and support of individuals.

LTF CURRENT STRUCTURE AND RESOURCES

In 2011 weappointed Rob Noble as Chief Executive; a former army officer whose personal drive is to train hard and fight easy in order to be able to respond to the unforeseen on top of business as usual. This has crossed over into his role at LTFwhere he has led the team through significant operational change in order to innovate our leadership solutions and to put the charity on a better financial footing. Gaynor Lewis, a former senior executive at the Institute of Leadership & Management, joined the organisation in 2013 and the new Senior Leadership Team set about focusing on business development and expanding our sphere of influence through increased courses and media exposure. Their success has been that the number of client organisations has doubled between 2011and the end of 2014, and sales revenue has grown.

Whilst LTF is a small organisation it has an extensive network of associated practitioners and academics pre-eminent in the fields of leadership research and development. Their input strengthens our opinions by broadening our perspective and gives us greater diversity and resilience.

We now hold an annual ‘Think Tank’ with our academic associates to discuss “leadership challenges of today” and “the real value and contribution of leadership to business and society”. Discussions are wide-ranging and subsequent reports make interesting reading, touching on the following areas:

  • The role that leadership plays in building an ethical society
  • Leadership as shaper of vision and driver of positive change
  • Leadership as a role model for society
  • Meaning creation and leadership as “calling”
  • Dispersed Leadership as a critical element in understanding the leadership of organisations
  • Disruptive leadership and the ‘tempered radical’
  • Stewardship and building a legacy through teaching is key to today’s ethical leadership
  • The inevitable disappointment of heroic leadership
  • Leadership of and for Generation Y
  • Higher education and the contribution of business schools to the leadership of society

In addition, LTF has the strength of 40 years of alumni many of whom have risen to senior leadership roles in Global Organisations. We are constantly rewarded by meeting these people in all walks of life and hearing that The Leadership Trust was “a life-changing experience”.

Going forward, the Trustees have set the Senior Leadership Team ambitious and shared sales targets; to achieve 50% growth in sales revenue by 2017 and 150% growth in sales revenue by 2019. We believe these are achievable goals and are working with the executive to identify the best market focus and supporting structures to drive this growth.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

LTF now seeks to recruit 2-3 new Board Trustees to work with their fellow Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team in the next phase of its development and business evolution. The organisation is currently formulating an exciting and ambitious five year plan, and we are looking for candidates who are able to offer a breadth of business experience at senior level, and can make a strong contribution to the strategic leadership required to help us drive this period of planned growth.

The Foundation is also looking to transition to a new Chair of the Board and would be very interested to hear from candidates who would consider stepping up into this role.

We very much look forward to receiving your application and learning more about you.
