Lakeview Public Schools is the largest of three school districts serving the city of St. Clair Shores, Michigan. The city is located on the shores of Lake St. Clair just north of Detroit, and is an outstanding residential community, with excellent recreational facilities and a “small town” feel.

Lakeview Public Schools operatesan early childhood center, four elementary, one middle school and one high school. Total student enrollment PreK-12th, for the 2017/2018 school year is 4,501. Enrollment trends in all programs PK to college have been up the past several years. We anticipate expanding into additional on-line instructional services in 2018-19.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (MA/MS); valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with secondary endorsement and/or special course work related to high school;at least 24 graduate hours in administration, curriculum, leadership, etc.
  • Eight years ofsuccessful experience in education, including teaching and administration; demonstrated leadership in improving student achievement
  • Demonstrated interest in and support of students and extra-curricular activities
  • Evidence of active participation in leadership initiatives and organizations (District committees, NCA, MASSP, etc.)
  • Superior written and oral communication skills and the ability to present to groups
  • Collaborative leadership skills and a willingness to listen and delegate
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, data, and to follow legal andtechnical procedures
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence, and to utilize Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrated interest and ability in thehuman resource field
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with students, parents, teachers, and the broader community

Responsibilities:

The Principal will be responsible for:

  • Student achievement, including close collaboration with university and college partners on dual enrollment (over 180 students attend several different programs)
  • Supervising two assistant principals and over 95 teachers and other employees
  • The overall leadership, direction, coordination, and evaluation of a comprehensive Class A high school program
  • Establishing a culture of high expectations for both academics and behavior
  • Interviewing, orientation, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; resolving complaints and problems
  • Interacting with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at his/her highest level
  • Assigning teachers to classrooms and students to classes
  • Assisting in coordination of in-service training for teachers and other staff
  • Maintaining positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, business partners, and other related agencies
  • Participating in district-wide activities, such as Curriculum Council, Strategic Planning, in-service training, and committees
  • Recommending and implementingpolicy and procedure changes for consideration by the Superintendent and the Board of Education
  • Fulfilling and reporting to staff and the community such as Public Act 25, ESEA and Education Yes
  • Establishing priorities for selection of educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers within allowable allocated funds
  • Working with central office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school and District
  • Keeping current on legal, financial and educational reform initiatives
  • Maintaining current educational and/or administrative certificate
  • Managing the school budget, facility, and events
  • Other duties as assigned

Salary: Based on a pre-established salary schedule

(approx. $110,680-$125,737 in 2017-18

depending on degrees and experience, plus
