THEOLOGY of the BODY BUILDING BLOCKS

Spend time in prayer letting these sink into your heart and let God teach you how to say them naturally.

A secular perspective / A faith based perspective
  • You are unrepeatable; no once can replace YOU!
  • You have great dignity – You are very good at the core.
  • Your life / your body has great meaning
  • You are a body-soul person; both are important
  • You are not just a collection of body parts, you are a whole person.
  • You are not an animal. You are a human person.
  • You are not a thing. You are a human being.
  • You have free will and an intellect.
  • Our heads and our hearts are meant to work together, not to let just one rule over us.
  • There is meaning in being made male and female.
  • Our complementarity brings life to the world.
  • You are made to love; it is a good thing to love!
  • You are made to give (pour out) love and receive love.
  • You are meant to make a gift of yourself to others & the world. As small as a smile or as big as laying down your life.
  • Each of us has a deep desire to love & to be loved; that is a good desire but must be directed toward what is best for us and others.
  • We are each drawn to / hungry and thirsty for what is True, Good & Beautiful.
  • Love goes deeper than an emotion – it is a choice to want & work toward the best for someone else, even when it is difficult.
  • Marital love is meant to be free (not forced or enslaved to urges), total (100% of both persons, faithful (permanent) and life-giving.
  • You are meant to be loved, never used.
  • We were never meant to be hurt, divided/divorced or lusted after, just loved.
  • Your body speaks a language: are you speaking the truth of love or are you presenting a counterfeit of love.
  • Natural Family Planning uses scientific knowledge of the woman’s fertility cycle to avoid or achieve pregnancy and teaches responsible parenthood.
/
  • You are made in the image of God – a Trinity: Love is given & received from Father to Son to Holy Spirit for all eternity.
  • Individually & together we radiate God’s love.
  • The meaning of life is stamped in the “sign” of our bodies; men as givers of the gift, women as receivers of the gift (but in giving we receive & in receiving we give)
  • God loves freely, totally, faithfully, and fruitfully. The marriage vows invite the bride and groom to make the same commitment to love.
  • Real love between persons is a sign of God’s love.
  • Real love gives us a glimpse of Heaven.
  • The union of man & woman in marriage gives us a little glimpse of how intimate our union with God will be in heaven. Though union with God is not sexual, in does involve our whole person, body & soul.
  • In order for it not to be an act of use, the marital act much be both unitive (physically-spiritually in union) and procreative (open to life).
  • We were not created for suffering, division & death, but we did inherit these effects of original sin.
  • Because of original sin we will always struggle with temptation against what is right & god – but we must remember our baptism & who we were created to be “in the beginning”!
  • Redemption is real; know the power of Jesus’ death & resurrection for your sake!
  • Satan can only offer counterfeits; he will twist the Trust and make his version look better.
  • Making a gift of ourselves can be physical and/or spiritual; a smile, praying, being helpful, laying down your life for another / dying on the cross.
  • We are all called to be mothers of fathers in some way. Biologically, physically present and/or spiritually.
  • Sacraments are physical-spiritual strengtheners through the real physical-spiritual presence of Christ.
  • Natural Family Planning protects the couple’s faithfulness to the marriage vows they made, especially the ‘openness to life’ or what is called being ‘fruitful’.
