The Honors Program at Tennessee Tech University
2013-2014 Honors Academic Scholarship Contract
The Honors Program at Tennessee Tech University is pleased to offer you the Honors Academic Scholarship (HAS). The HAS directly offsets the out-of-state portion of tuition and fees for on-campus courses during the semesters in which it is in effect. The amount of the HAS will vary each semester, matching the amount of out-of-state fees charged during each semester.
In accepting the scholarship, you agree to the following terms for maintaining eligibility for the HAS:
1. Duration and Amount of Scholarship: The HAS will be awarded for the number of fall / spring semesters specified in the award letter, not to exceed eight (8) fall / spring semesters. The amount of the HAS award will be adjusted as often as necessary and appropriate, so that the current award amount remains equal to the current out-of-state tuition charges for each semester. The HAS does not cover out-of-state tuition charges for RODP courses.
2. GPA Requirements: To retain the HAS, you will maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 during each semester. One “semester of grace” is allowed, during which the cumulative GPA may drop below 3.50. The cumulative GPA must subsequently be raised to 3.50 or above by the end of the “semester of grace.” Following the “semester of grace,” a cumulative GPA below 3.50 will result in permanent loss of the HAS. In any semester, a cumulative GPA below 3.10 will result in permanent loss of the HAS, without a semester of grace.
3. Honors Course Requirements: While receiving the HAS, you must take and successfully complete at least one Honors course each fall and spring semester, until all course requirements for graduation in cursu honorum have been completed. Honors 2000-level courses may not be counted toward meeting this requirement. You must maintain a full-time course load (minimum of 12 semester hours) each fall and spring semester while receiving the HAS. During the fall semester of freshman year, HON1010, Introduction to Honors, will be sufficient to meet the Honors course requirement. Failure to meet course requirements in a given semester will result in permanent loss of the HAS.
4. HPEO Requirements: During each semester of receiving the HAS, you must participate fully and successfully in the Honors Program Enrichment Option (HPEO), the scholarship service program of Honors. HPEO obligations are negotiated and agreed to at the beginning of each fall / spring semester. HPEO requirements and rules may be changed from time to time at the discretion of the Honors Program. HPEO rules and requirements are available for review on the TTU Honors Program website.
5. Accepting or Declining the HAS: If you choose to accept the HAS, you must log in to your TTU ScholarWeb account via the Scholarships website (www.tntech.edu/scholarships). You must accept or decline the HAS online in ScholarWeb no later than the date specified in your award letter. By accepting the HAS online via your Scholarweb account, you affirm that you understand and accept the terms outlined in this document.
