Responsible to: / Unit Manager or Senior on duty
Job Purpose: / §  The implementation and promotion of the aims and objectives specific to the needs of older people.
§  To work in a person centred way with service which promotes quality of life and maximises independence.
§  The post holder must understand the need to work in a way which is inclusive, respects the rights and choices of the service user as per National care standards and Human Rights legislation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: / §  Recognise and adhere to approved safe moving and handling techniques at all times.
§  Enabling clients to achieve physical comfort.
§  To enable clients to eat and drink
§  To enable clients to access and use toilet facilities
§  Contribute to the management of client continence
§  Enable clients to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance
§  Enable clients to maintain contacts in potentially isolating situations
§  Contribute to the care of clients who are terminally ill
§  Support clients and others at a time of loss
§  Contribute to the maintenance and management of domestic and person resources
§  Maintain and control stock, equipment and materials
§  Contribute to the care of a deceased person
§  Contribute to the planning, monitoring and recording of service delivery
§  To respond effectively to the domiciliary alarm service, and where appropriate the Home Care Service
§  To undertake any training deemed necessary to the post
§  Following appropriate training to undertake acting up duties in the absence of a Senior
§  To be aware of all legislation relevant to the role including responsibilities to service users, colleagues and visitors to the unit.
Other Duties: / §  The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties appropriate to the level of the post.
§  Duties and responsibilities will vary from time to time
§  Act as infection Control Key worker as required.(Further information supplied as necessary)
§  Undertake keyworker role for moving and handling as required (further information supplied as necessary)
Health & Safety / Health & Safety is an integral part of any role within the Highland council. As such we would expect that all employees:
§  Be familiar with Violent Incident and Accident reporting procedures and comply with them.
§  Undertake a continual program of Risk Assessment in relation to their role within Highland Council.
§  Have an understanding of the importance of Health & Safety in the workplace and familiarise themselves with the Highland Council’s Health & Safety Procedures.
