*Morning Prayer: / Cleveland Smith, Jr.
***
*Opening Hymn:
AAHH #172 “Praise Him”
*Affirmation of Faith: / The Apostles’ Creed
Unison: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
*Doxology:
BPH #592 “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow”
Prayer of Confession:
Minister: / Let us confess our sins as we pray:
(Unison) We try to stop Jesus from coming into our lives, Patient God, for we know how disruptive he can be. He wants us to preach the gospel with our lives, but we prefer to complain how hard that is to do. He wants us to do what is right, yet wrong-doing comes so easily for us. We confess because we know we need to be forgiven by you, Glory and Grace. Bathe us in the life giving waters of your mercy so we can come up from the water, ready to do good for others, to give you all the praise, to learn justice, grace, and hope from your Servant, Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon: / Minister
We are God's Beloved. We delight God's heart. The Spirit of God rests upon us, anointing us with mercy and peace.
People: / Thanks be to God! Amen.

Hymn of Preparation:
AAHH #291 “O How I Love Jesus”
THE WORD
Prayer for Illumination: Elder Andrenna Smith
Still-speaking God, as these words from Scripture are read, may it be to us as if the heavens are opening, and we see your Spirit descending on us like a dove, revealing your love for us. Amen.
Scripture Lesson: Matthew 3:13-17
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

THE INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE
Minister: Friends, this is the joyful feast of the people of God! They will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at the table in the kingdom of God. According to Luke, when our risen Lord was at the table with his disciples, he took the bread, and blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him. This is the Lord’s table. Our Savior invites those who trust him to share the feast which he has prepared.
GREAT THANKSGIVING
(Please stand)
Minister: / The Lord be with you.
People: / And also with you.
Minister: / Lift up your hearts.
People: / We lift them to the Lord.
Minister: / Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: / It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Minister: It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise, O God of mercy and might. In your wisdom, you made all things and sustain them by your power. You have called forth men and women in every age to be your servants and speak your word. When we rebelled against your call and turned from your ways, in your love you called us back to you. You delivered us from captivity, and made covenant to be our sovereign God. You sent prophets to call us to justice and compassion. Therefore, we praise you, joining our voices with choirs of heaven and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name:
People: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Minister: You are holy, O God of majesty, and blessed is Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, in whom you have revealed yourself, our light and our salvation. Baptized in Jordan’s waters, Jesus took his place with sinners and your voice proclaimed him your beloved. Your Spirit anointed him to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives, to restore sight to the blind, to free the oppressed. He lived among us in power and grace, touching broken lives with your healing peace. By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your church, and made us a new covenant by water and the Spirit. We give you thanks that the Lord Jesus, on the night before he died, took bread, and after giving thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way he took the cup, saying: This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood, shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Remembering your gracious acts in Jesus Christ, we take from your creation this bread and this wine and joyfully celebrate his dying and rising, as we await the day of his coming. With thanksgiving, we offer our very selves to you to be a living and holy sacrifice, dedicated to your service.
Great is the mystery of faith:
People: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Minister: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, that we may be one with all who share this feast, united in ministry in every place. As this bread is Christ’s body for us, send us out to be the body of Christ in the world. In union with your church in heaven and on earth, we pray, O God, that you will fulfill your eternal purpose in us and in all the world. As you once claimed us in the Spirit’s waters and number us among your own beloved, give us power to do your work, to show your love, and to live holy and joyful lives. Keep us faithful in your service until Christ comes in final victory and we shall feast with all your saints in the joy of your eternal realm. Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Minister: As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray:
All: Our Father…
(Please be seated)
THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD
Minister: The Bread which we break, is it not sharing in the body of Christ?
People: Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. As we eat it, we do proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Hymn AAAH #686“Let Us Break Bread Together”
(V1 while the bread is being distributed by the elders)
Minister: The body of our Lord Jesus Christ. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your heart by faith and thanksgiving.
People: / Amen.
THE COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE
Minister: The wine which we drink, is it not a sharing in the fellowship of his suffering love?
People: The cup which we bless is the blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for us and for many for the forgiveness of sins. As we drink it, we do proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Hymn AAAH #686: “Let Us Break Bread Together”
(V2 while the wine is being distributed by the elders)
Minister: The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Drink this in remembrance that Christ’s blood was shed for you, and be thankful.
People: / Amen.
(Please stand)
Hymn AAAH #686: “Let Us Break Bread Together” (V3)
THE CONGREGATION PRAYER (Unison)
God, our help and strength, you have satisfied our hunger with this Eucharistic food. Strengthen our faith, that through the death and resurrection of your Son we may be led to salvation, for he is Lord now and forever. Amen.
