Job Description: Fundraising, Events and Communications Intern

Initial One Year Fixed Term Contract

Full Time: 37.5 hrs/wk Salary: £16,960 per annum

The Haven is a registered charity providing support to people affected by a range of life limiting illnesses, including Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease and to their family members and carers. We aim to empower people to cope with the complex emotional, physical and practical impacts of illness; enable them to better understand their illness, treatment and care; reduce stress and relieve anxiety. Above all we aim to improve the quality of life of our clients and support them to live life positively and with hope. The Haven operates 3 centres in Blantyre, Forth and Wishaw and a Haven @ Home service,which delivers support in clients’ own homes, providing flexibility and choice for clients with more complex needs.

Intern Role:

The Fundraising, Events and Communications Intern will play a key role in ensuringthe ongoing development of Haven services within a framework of financial sustainability. You will support the work of the Fundraising Officer, securing income generation target. There is tremendous scope for a self motivated, enthusiastic and creative graduate to develop this role andgain valuable experience across a diversity of fundraising, events and communications activities.

The Haven Fundraising Officer is currently a registered blind person with a guide dog, so the applicant must consider themself completely comfortable in this type of environment.

Location:

You will primarily be based at The Haven (Blantyre) but will work across all 3 Haven centres (Blantyre, Wishaw and Forth) as required to meet the needs of the organisation. There will also be a requirement to accompany fundraising staff to meetings within the community and to attend fundraising and community events.

Hours:

Full time post of 37.5 hrs per week, primarily Monday to Friday, though some flexibility, with occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Overtime is not payable.

Line Manager:

The post-holder will report directly to The Haven Fundraising Officer and be responsible to The Haven Manager and Board of Directors

General:

In the interests of both personal safety and that of others, the post holder is expected to follow The Haven Health & Safety policies and procedures. The Haven operates a no smoking policy to which the post holder will be expected to adhere. This job description is not exhaustive, and is subject to change in conjunction with the post holder.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Haven multidisciplinary team
  • Work with the Fundraising Officer to implement community based events, fundraisingand communications activitiesto meet financial targets
  • Support the work of the Fundraising Officer by undertaking general administration tasks, IT tasks, attending meetings and note taking at meetings
  • Take delegated responsibility for managing specific projects
  • Follow systems and processes for all fundraising activities to monitor progress
  • Contribute copy for the web, social media and local press
  • Develop and maintain social media platforms
  • Maintain accurate statistical and financial records and databases in line with legal and ethical frameworks and all Haven policies
  • Produce reports and briefing papers as required
  • Ensure that The Haven is seen in a positive and professional light at all times
  • The Fundraising Officer is currently a registered blind person with a guide dog andyou must be prepared to assist with the guide dog, including occasionally cleaning up dog excrement, when necessary, under strict health and safety guidelines.
