SCENE ONENATE’S ROOM

Nate:(Signing ‘Happy’ song with headphones and dancing)

“It might seem crazy what I’m about to say

Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break

I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space

With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way…because I’m…”

Ella:EASTER! (Bursts into Nate’s room)

Nate:(Startled) What? What’s going on? Ella, what are you doing?

Ella:What am I doing? The questionis what were you doing?

Nate:Umm (embarrassed)

Ella:Never mind! Nate, it’s almost Easter (excited).

Nate:Annnnd you burst into my room just to tell me that?

Ella:Well, yeah. I’ve been thinking…

Nate:Here we go, Ella’s been thinking again…

Ella:I’ve been thinking about Easter, and holidays and chocolate and…

Nate:(shaking his head)

Ella:bunny rabbits!

Nate:Bunny rabbits? Ella, what are you talking about?

Ella:Well, that’s the thing…I don’t really know. Every year, we have Easter. We have Easter holidays, we eat chocolate Easter eggs and there are random bunny rabbits.

Nate:You mean the Easter Bunny?

Ella:Yes! The Easter Bunny…I just don’t get what all of this has to do with Easter.

Nate:Now you’ve made me hungry, but that reminds me…I’m sure I’ve got some chocolate around here somewhere (searching for chocolate).

Ella:I’ve got an idea!

(Nate pretends to listen while still searching for chocolate).

We’ll ask Jack! He’ll be able to help us. Jack is the best at solving mysteries.

Nate:Yeah yeah, Jake will help…(not concentrating)

Ella:Come on Nate, let’s go! There’s no time to waste. We’re going to solve the Great Easter Mystery!

Nate:YES! I found it. (Has a massive Easter bunny egg).

Ella:Come on Nate, let’s go! (Drags Nate off stage).

SCENE TWOJACK POWERS ROOM

Jack: Hi there. My name is Jack Powers. You may have heard of my cousin Zach. I’m into technology and solving mysteries… I am what you call one cool kid…(talking to himself with his hands on his hips).

Nate: (comes into his room) Talking to yourself again?

Jack:oh yeah (embarrassed) What have you got there Nate?

Nate:Only the best Easter Bunny Egg you’ve ever seen.

Ella:Hi Jack. Right, we’ve got a mystery to solve.

Jack:A mystery? I love mysteries!

Ella:Right, well have you ever wondered about Easter? (Speak slowly).

Jack: Easter? Yes…keep going.

Ella:Well, what’s Easter all about?

Nate:Great mystery aye? (Eating Easter egg).

Jack: Ok, so you want to find out about Easter and why we celebrate it?

Ella:Yes! That’s right!

Jack: I think that’s a great mystery to solve! Here, let’s start with…(looks around)…the Easter Bunny! (Grabs Nate’s Easter Bunny Egg off him).

Nate: Heeey!

Jack:The Easter Bunny! One of the icons of Easter itself. We will need our tranasonic-auto-interprelating-device to work this one out.

Nate: The tranasonic-whata?whata?

Ella:The tranasonic-auto-interprelating-device. It will help us to understand what the Easter Bunny says about Easter.

Nate:Oh…(confused).

Jack: Now, if we just connect it up to the screen…I’m sure I have the Easter Bunny on Skype somewhere. Ah, here he is!

(Skype calling ring tone).

Jack:Pick up Easter Bunny!

Easter Bunny:(picture of Easter Bunny on the screen).

Nate:Umm, guys…that’s just an ordinary rabbit. All I can hear is squeak, squeak…squeak, squeak.

Ella:What’s he saying? What’s he saying? (Excited).

Jack:Hold on, just a few more seconds. Ah, yes. We’ve got it!

Nate:Got what?

Ella:Shhh, listen!

Jack:And now, the tranasonic-auto-interprelating-device will translate what the bunny said.

Easter Bunny:Easter is for everyone…(Voiceover).

All:Easter is for everyone! Audacious! (Crazy handshake).

Ella:Now we know that Easter is for everyone…that means you, me, everyone…even Nate! (laugh).

Nate:Heeey!!! (back eating his Easter Bunny egg).

Ella:What now Jack?

Jack:Well, everyone’s favourite part of Easter I suppose. (Grabs Nate’s Easter Bunny Egg just as he’s about to take a big bite of it).

Nate:Heeeyy!!

Nate:Chocolate! We must call Claudia Choclai the best Belguim chocolate maker in the world. Let’s see if she picks up.

(skype ring tone).

Claudia:Oh ess. Elloo. My name is Claudia Choclai. I ear you want to know about chocolate and Easter. Let me tell you. It is a crazy scheme to make zillions of dollars and keep the dentists appy with all the fillings from the chocolate…(crazy laugh) but one more thing… the real secret of the Easter Egg … is it means New Life. From egg comes new life…

All:Audacious! (handshake).

Nate:Now we know that Easter is for everyone and Easter is about New Life.

Jack:That’s right Nate. Now, I know there is more to be solved in this great Easter Mystery.

Ella:Well, Jack…I’ve been thinking. I know we have a holiday for Waitiangi day and Christmas but why do we have a holiday for Easter?

Jack:Great point Ella. Easter is a holiday for everyone in New Zealand…But why? We need to find out and I know exactly who we can ask.

Nate:I wonder who it’s going to be this time.

Jack: We need to talk to the Prime Minister. (Tapping away furiously on the computer) I can’t seem to break through the security system. We are going to have to get closer to Wellington city and see what politician we can find to help solve the great Easter mystery. Let’s go!

Ella:Wellington? Yes! I’ve always wanted to go there.

(Footage of Wellington on the screen – Shot of Jake, Nate, and Ella skateboarding. Happy music in the background).

Nate: We made it!

All:Audacious!! (crazy hi five routine).

(Beehive on the screens).

Jack:(holding device pointing towards Beehive) ok so I am using my Politicaingps tracking device… here is someone. Steven Sterling. Minister of Holidays. I will get him online. Excuse me Mr Sterling, Jack Powers here. I wondered if you could give me any information on why we have Easter holidays.

(Steven Sterling pops up on screen)

Steven Sterling: Umm yes my boy. Easter! Well, all the holidays we have in New Zealand are to remember something significant that has happened. Take for example Anzac Day. We remember that people died in the war to help us. Without them, our country wouldn’t be the same. Easter is for a similar reason where we remember that someone gave their life for us.

Jack: So Easter is a significant time and it’s to remember someone gave their life for us. Interesting! Thanks Mr Sterling.

Ella:Wow! So far we have found out, Easter is for everyone, it’s about New Life, it’s significant and it’s about someone who gave their life.

Jack:I need to think.

Nate:Well, while you’re thinking I am going to eat. Yum! Easter hot cross bun. Wow look at the cross on it. Do you think that’s got anything to do with Easter…?

(All sit down).

(beautiful music begins to play in the background).

Nate:Wow, where do you think that music is coming from?

Ella: Looks like that church over there.

Jack:Some people go to church at Easter. Should we go and see if we can find anything?

(Skate board off).

Nate:Look what I found! It’s a Bible.

Jack: Let’s see. (Flicks through pages) oh wow look here… it says For God so loved the world he sent his son

Ella: So the world- that’s like everyone

Nate: Jesus

Jack: that whoever believes in him will have new life.

Nate: So Easter is about remembering Jesus coming for us so we can have new life.

All: Audacious (crazy hi five routine).

Jack: Another mystery solved.

Nate: And now let’s eat our hot cross buns!

Ella:You know what? I always thought a hot cross bun was just a fancy piece of bread we only ate at Easter Time.

Jack:I did too!

Nate:I think now, whenever I eat hot cross buns I’ll remember that Easter is a significant time where I get to go on holiday because someone gave His life for us.

Ella:Yeah, and whenever I eat an Easter Egg, I’ll remember it’s not just about the chocolate, but how it means new life…Just like when a baby chick hatches out of an egg, it’s a new life.

Jack:And don’t forget Easter is for everyone!

All:Audacious (crazy high five).

Nate:You know what? I’m feeling pretty happy about this.

Ella:Me too! We’ve solved the Great Easter Mystery.

Jack:Let’s celebrate!

(Happy song plays. Singer comes out. “You all know this song. Sing along if You’re happy that it’s Easter time too!”)

Will:Who can remember the 3 main things from today’s skit?
1. Easter is for EVERYONE

2. The Easter Eggs mean…NEW LIFE

3. Easter is a time where we remember someone gave their LIFE for us.

That’s awesome. I’m going to say a quick karakia. Show them how to do it.

Thank you Father for Easter Time. Thank you hat Easter is for everyone and that we can remember it is about New Life and how someone gave their life for us. I pray You’d keep all these amazing kids safe and that they’d have an amazing holiday. In Jesus name, amene.
