10Now while he was at table in the house it happened that a number of tax collectors and sinners came to sit at the table withJesusand his disciples.

11When thePhariseessaw this, they said to his disciples, 'Why does your master eat with tax collectors and sinners?'

12When he heard this he replied, 'It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.

13Go and learn the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice. And indeed I came to call not the upright, but sinners.'

This leaves 23 members in arrears as I draft this column. I will not return until mid-March so please forward your dues via the Truxton P.O. FIELD AGENTS COLUMN

Put Your Loved Ones First

During the month of January, we spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves. What will our New Year’s resolutions be? How will we change our lives? What will 2017 bring for us?

But what about the ones you love? Is protecting them part of your plan for 2017? Sure, there’s a lot that you can and do to protect your loved ones. You make sure they’re safe. You make sure they’re taken care of. You do your best to make them happy. But what if you weren’t there for them? What if you couldn’t be?

Many are afraid to think about life insurance because they’re afraid of their mortality. But life insurance isn’t about dying, it’s about helping your family to live if and when something should happen to you.

Life insurance allows you to continue providing for your family after you’re gone, by seeing to it that they have the money they need to be as safe and secure as they have always been. It can provide mortgage protection, income replacement, retirement income, final expenses, and so much more.

And life insurance doesn’t need to be a gift that you’ll never see given. Your family can benefit from your policy while you’re still here to see them enjoy it.

So this Valentine’s Day, when you’re out buying that box of chocolates or flowers for your wife to express your continued love for her, make a point to schedule time with me to get your wife a special life-giving gift that will help you to protect her and your whole family for decades.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Lenten Fish Fries begin March 3rd.

Please pay attention to the crews assignment for all 6 weeks. Do your best to be there or find a replacement. And, bring a dessert. We need a few workers around 2:30 to cut fish and get things prepared. The guys doing the frying know what they need. We are looking for 2 or 3 able bodied, responsible people that could commit to every week, along with their crew commitment, to oversee certain aspects from week to week, so that our meals and service are consistent. We try to fill the Shut-in meals around 4:00 and start serving around 4:30. Usually from 5:00 to 6:30 is our busiest time and it takes 10 to 12 people just to work the serving line. Clean-up starts a bit after 7:00 and this is where the more people we have on hand, the faster it goes. Too often some leave as soon as serving is over and make it a bigger job for others.

Thanks for last year and thank you in advance for this year,

Randy & Jerry

Council Leadership (everyone's responsibility)

A committee of three of the council officers attended a leadership session on Friday evening September 23 at the O'Fallon Council. This hour and a half presentation was presented by Dannie Harris, Membership Consultant from Supreme Council. The intent of the presentation is to make the Council stronger. The presentation is designed totally to help each council achieve the council's goals with the participation of the Council Leadership and thru the participation of each of its members. Each officer needs to understand the duties of his office and the membership likewise so that a situation that arises can be brought to the attention of the officer who can best address it.

This meeting was a first step, now to continue this building of a stronger Council the committee of three feel it is time to inform all of the duties of the Council Officers. So this month below is the fourth of five installments to appear in the Council Newsletter.

COUNCIL OFFICER POSITIONS/dUTIES

DUTIES OF COUNCIL OFFICERS

Since a more informed member will most likely prove to be a more active and involved member, every new Knight should be introduced to council officers and Service Program directors as soon after his First Degree as possible, and a brief description of the office or position should be made at this time.

To be a council officer, a Knight must be a Third Degree member of the Order.

WARDEN

The warden is responsible for supervising and maintaining all council property, except that which belongs to the financial secretary.

He sets up the council chambers for meetings and degrees and appoints and supervises guards for ceremonial exemplifications. The warden should also oversee the inside and outside guards and make sure they are fulfilling the duties assigned to them.

INSIDE and OUTSIDE GUARDS

The guards attend the doors of the council chamber, checking on current membership cards before allowing entrance.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The board of trustees consists of the Grand Knight and three members elected by the council. Trustees supervise all financial business of the council. They serve as auditors for the semiannual audits and oversee the work of the financial secretary and treasurer. The Grand Knight is the chairman of the board. It is suggested that the board of trustees and the Deputy Grand Knight serve on the council’s retention committee.

Trustees are elected for terms of three years, two years and one year. At each regular election, the position of each trustee will be voted upon, and the current three and two year trustees move on to become two and one year trustees, respectively.
