The Governor S Sports League Beach Volleyball Tournament Will Be Held the Weekend of October

The Governor’s Sports League Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held the weekend of October 7-8, 2017 on the beach at 26th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach. We do not have a host hotel so everyone is on their own to find their own lodging.

The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. Each team will be guaranteed 4 matches for the weekend. The top two seeded teams off each net from Saturday play will advance to the Championship Bracket. The remaining teams advance to the “Best of the Rest” Bracket. Sunday tournament is double elimination - best 2 out of 3 games.

Teams consist of 6 players (3 male and 3 female players). Teams can have an unlimited number of non-state employees on their roster as long as there is at least ONE state employee playing on the team. The state employee must play at least one game of every match (unless injured).

Schedules and rules will be emailed to team captains the week before the tournament. There will be a captains' meeting on the beach behind the hotel at 9:45 a.m. Saturday to go over the rules and format of the tournament.

Registration for the tournament is $125 per team. The deadline for tournament entries is September 25, 2017. Because we’ve had to cancel the last two tournaments and incur some expenses, we’re setting the deadline for entries at two weeks prior to the tournament.

Volunteers are needed from each team to help us set up the poles, nets, and court lines. We need the designated volunteers to meet us on the beach in front of the hotel at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, and at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. For each day you send a volunteer (and they show up on time to help) we will refund $10 back to your team.
