Troubadours 2014

Thank you for your interest in auditioning Troubadours! The Troubadours will rehearse on selected evenings from in preparation for the Festival of Carols performances featuring the Madrigals, Troubadours, and Chamber Orchestra. The performances will include traditional madrigals, early instrumental music, seasonal carols, and a dessert reception after the program.

In addition, the singing ensembles will perform at various events around the local community and schools. If you have any opportunities for the madrigals or troubadours to perform, please contact me at . We desirethe students to perform throughout the community during the holiday season!

Auditions

Individual auditions will be held during lunches on Friday, September 5th. Students need to sign-up for one audition time on the bulletin board in the choir room. Auditions will consist of preparing one vocal part (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, or Alto) on “Ah! Cruel Amarillis” (see attachment). A midi file and free sheet music should the student lose the piece given them (as well as several youtube performances) can be found at: Students will sing a cappella and a starting pitch will be given on the piano. I will be listening for a pure tone quality in order to create a uniform and mature sound when singing a cappella. Singers will also be assessed on their stage presence as a performer. Results will be posted on Monday,September 8thand the first rehearsal will be on Monday, September 15th.

Please note: additional performance events and caroling in early December will be determined soon. Singers will be given at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to any schedule changes.

Student Expectations Contract

Attendance Policy

  • All students are expected to be at all rehearsals and performances.
  • Students may only be excused from a rehearsal/performance if the conflict is listed on the audition form and if the school would excuse an absence (weddings, funerals, sickness).
  • Absences due to illness or other emergencies should be emailed to the director as soon as possible to avoid potential misunderstandings.
  • If a student is more than 10 minutes late, unexcused, to a rehearsal, it will be counted as an absence. Excused tardiness or absences due to a school-sponsored event will be considered but prior communication with the director is necessary in these cases.
  • Consistent absences will result in dismissal from the ensemble.

Rehearsal & Performance Expectations

  • Ensemble Members are expected to arrive at rehearsals on time and with their music prepared.
  • Students must respect other people and their property and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Periodic deadlines will be given to have music learned and memorized. Failure to meet these deadlines may result in dismissal from the ensemble.

Extracurricular Fee

  • Students are expected to pay a $40 activity fee in order to audition. This fee can be a check made out to Batavia Music Buffs and must be submitted at the first rehearsal on Monday, September 15th.
  • This fee covers the cost of music, costume purchases and cleaning, and dinner before the Friday performance.

Costuming

  • Each member of the cast will be issued a costume and it is the student’s responsibility to care for the costume. Care includes:
  • Protecting, to the best of your ability, the costume from damage or soil
  • Reporting any repairs immediately as they are needed
  • Costumes may not be used for anything other than Madrigal activities.
  • Damage to costumes due to negligence or misuse will be fined equal to the cost of repairs
  • Costumes must be turned in after the season’s conclusion.

Set-up and Clean-up

  • All students are expected to assist in the set-up and clean-up for the performances. Students may not leave until they have checked out with the director.
