The Georgia-based Company Economic Project

Objective: You are corporate recruiters for an important Georgia-based company. (Note: a “Georgia based company is one whose corporate headquarters is located in the state. For example, Home Depot is a Georgia-based company, while Lowe’s hardware is a company doing business in Georgia, but is based in North Carolina).

Imagine you will be addressing college students about to graduate and you are attempting to persuade them to apply for employment with your company. Your goal is to deliver a dynamic Power Pointpresentation to this audience in order to attract the “best and the brightest.” Your salary (grade) is dependent on appealing to top academic performers and the number of people you can attract. You will have 3-4 days in the lab to collect information and build your presentation. Become familiar with the Economic Terms Vocabulary handout before you begin this project!

Slide 4: Location of company headquarters

Slide 8: What kind of management skills is the company searching for in entry-level management positions

Slide 9: Why is this company the best company in which to go to work?

Slide 10: Information on this slide is your group’s choice. Add any additional information you feel

is interesting.

Extra touches: Create a jingle to help promote the idea of the company – the jingle should be included in your presentation and/or provide “giveaways” from your company; e.g., stickers, pencils, etc.

Project Tips:

  • An effective collaboration involves every member of the group to participate. It is essential that work is evenly divided. This project is divided into ten slides – 3 to 4 slides should be typed by each person in the group. If you group is smaller – divide the slide preparation in half.
  • Let your teacher know if you have a “planned” absence during the computer lab work days.
  • If a group member is absent, your group “must go on.” If they miss more than one day, they will be given an alternate assignment.
  • If your group is having any difficulties – REPORT this the day it is occurring. Waiting until the end of the project is not acceptable.
  • All project work will be completed IN CLASS!!
  • Paraphrase – don’t plagiarize.
  • Follow the pacing guide (time management) as close as practical.
  • Professional dress on your presentation day is a nice touch.
  • Practice your overall presentation!!

Pacing Guide: (this is a suggested pace…you may go ahead as needed)

Day 1:

_____ Set up your Power Point, give it a title and save the presentation to the shared drive under

your teacher’s name (be sure to save it to your class period). Each group will have two computers

in which to work – one for research and one to develop the presentation.

_____ Select one member of the group to be responsible for typing the first set of slides – every member of

the group helps with the research and information.

_____ Research your company and complete Slides 1-4.

**Power Points should consist of “bulleted” points. When presenting, use these bullets as your “talking points.” You may have a script or notecards to help when giving the presentation – you should NOT read from the Power Point!!

Day 2:

____ Rotate the daily responsibilities and complete Slides 5-8.

Day 3:

_____ Rotate the daily responsibilities and complete slides 9-10 to complete the presentation.

Day 4:

_____Rotate the daily responsibilities and complete any unfinished slides.

_____ Polish the presentation ~ add clip art, animations (remember too many actually take away from the

professionalism of your presentation), transitions, etc.

_____ PRACTICE your presentation.

_____ Everyone in the group needs to be responsible for the entire presentation.

Grading:

This project counts as a summative assessment. Each person will earn a group grade based on the overall quality of the Power Point and an individual grade based on presentation skills.
