One stem from non-herbaceous, woody plants that usually branch. Each cut branch must be a minimum of 12” and maximum length not to exceed 30” from tip of specimen to cut end and must include several nodes and an apical tip. Spray not to exceed 24 inches.

Class 1: “Deep Sea Exploration” 4 Entries

Staged on a table using a niche and underlay provided by designer. Allotted space 31” at its widest point x 24” deep by 36” high.

  1. Designer’s choice of plant material.
  2. Creative Design having component/s, including some or all plant material, submerged in water to create interest. Those components under water must contribute artistically to the overall design and not merely be stems and/or mechanics.
  3. Components submerged in water are chosen for their lasting quality under water.
  4. Water visually magnifies all things. Mechanics and debris are also magnified
  5. Water line becomes part of the design, and is distracting if poorly situated.
  6. Water may not be colored.

Class 2: “Fork in the Road” 4 Entries

  1. A Creative Design, in which there is a strong emphasis on angular components.
  2. Angles are not limited to one type. A variety of angles (acute, obtuse, and right angles) add interest to a design but not all components should be angular as contrast is essential to a pleasing design.
  3. Must use some plant material (fresh and/or dried).

EXHIBIT 2: “Capture A World of Beauty”

Staged on a table 72” wide by 24” deep, members of the Calcasieu Orchid Society will display the many types of orchids grown by their members. The display exhibits the diversity of orchids and the ease with which some of these orchids can be grown. It also is designed to inspire others to become interested in their propagation.
