Dr. Oscar V. Little, was born March 16, 1923 to the late Newt and Irene (Hill) Little, in Chicago, Illinois. Oscar accepted Christian teaching at an early age from parents who knew and loved the Lord.

The family migrated to Los Angeles, California in 1932, and united with Ward Chapel A.M. E. Church, under the Leadership of the late Rev. I. W. Price.

Oscar attended school in the Los Angeles Unified School District and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He graduated from U. C. L. A. in 1949, where he later received his Master's and PhD. Oscar taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and after retiring from the Los Angeles Unified School District, he went to work for the United States Veterans Educational Rehabilitation Administration in Washington, D. C. until retirement.

Having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and developing a personal relationship with him characterized Oscar's entire life. A life that can be summed up in one statement, "If I can help somebody as I pass along the way then my living shall not be in vain."

Oscar was an active member of Ward A. M. E. Church in Los Angeles, and Metropolitan A. M. E. in Washington, D. C. He was active in Sunday School and served on the Usher Boards of both churches.

Oscar was the strong link for the Little family, patriarch, nurturer, advisor, great listener, and best friend. He kept the family together. He was a genealogist who researched his family background more than 30 years ago and started The Little Family reunion tying together more than 2000 relatives over (9) generations.

Oscar always gave of himself to others, never looking for an exchange or anything in return He was involved in many civic, community and social organizations. A life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., serving as Past Western Regional Vice President, and a member of the Rising Suns Lodge of the Ancient Free and Accepted Scottish Scottish-Rite Masonry of the World.

His motto was give to the world the best you have and the best will come back to you! Oscar lived his creed. He gave until God said to him, well done my good and faithful servant. Now come home to rest with the angels in heaven above.

On Tuesday, February 24, 2004 Dr. Oscar V. Little was called home. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved Sister Ira Clarence (Little) Richardson, one sister in-law Myrtle Little both of Los Angeles California, a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

* August 25, 2011 Washington Post Newspaper story credits Oscar V. Little, Phd. as one of the Silver Spring Md. Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter, Iota Upsilon Lambda men (1984) credited with getting the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. memorial built on the Washington D. C. mall.
