About International Medicine Studies, s.r.o. (IMS)
International Medicine Studies, s.r.o. (IMS) is the international student recruitment and support services arm of the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology (FVHE) at the University of Veterinary & Pharmaceutical Sciences (UVPS), Brno. We specialize in helping international students apply and enrol in theveterinary medicine degree program. As part of our mission, we also provide comprehensive support to international students throughout the academic year. Our ongoing support ensures that students’ investment in education abroad is as successful and comfortable as possible.
About The Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology
The Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology (FVHE) was established in 1991. FVHE focuses on education and research in the field of veterinary hygiene and ecology and the safety and quality of food.
The courses taught at the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology are fully accredited and adhere to strict EU standards in animal protection, food safety and drug usage. With the first international evaluation in 1995 by the European Association of Establishment for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), the veterinary education was recognized as one of the best in the field of veterinary hygiene that are offered to students at any European veterinary school.
In 2004, the faculty underwent the second international evaluation, which stated that the faculty fulfills the requirements for veterinary education prescribed by the directives of the European Union and that the programespecially the education for food hygiene,represents an application of the “from stable to table “concept. On the basis of such evaluation, the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology is enlisted on the prestigious list of positively assessed veterinary faculties of Europe (List of Evaluated and Approved Institutions by EAEVE).
The educational activities at FVHE are carried out in the following accredited study programmes: masters, bachelors, continuing masters and doctoral degree programme sand within the lifetime education. Study programmes at the pre-graduate level consist of a set of compulsory and restricted
elective study subjects. Basic forms of teaching are lectures, practical trainings, seminars, consultations, tuitions in agricultural and food-processing companies and institutions, individual stays and practice of students, individual expert work at the departments, Special-purpose facilities of the faculty and university (the slaughterhouse, School agricultural company), practical education in the technological workrooms (meat workroom and workroom for fish and fish products and milk workroom) and also the individual study. The emphasis is placed on the practical training leading to acquiring practical skills of the student.
The main difference between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) and the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology (FVHE) is that graduates from FVHE acquire more extended knowledge in the field of farm animal veterinary medicine as well as in public health protection.
The mission of the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology ensues from the history of veterinary hygiene at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and constitutes a valuable heritage into the future. Rapid development of food hygiene, especially in the area of veterinary food hygiene has been profiling already since the new millennium. This trend has been accompanying developed economics of the EU and also represents a worldwide trend. In many cases, it is a reaction to food disordersvery sensitively perceived by consumers and publicized in the media. These facts are essential measures by the EU to ensure safe and good-quality food.

In order to be accepted to the university, you need to pass an Entrance Exam (see details below). Upon paying the application fee and sending your HighSchool certificate and application form, you are automatically signed up for the Entrance Exam. (The Application Fee consists of the Application Processing Fee and the Entrance Exam fee).All applications from international students to FVHEat UVPS, Brno are handled through IMS.

Application Receipt and Review
Once applicants send in their completed application materials, a formal procedure ensues.
Confirmation of Receipt
First, IMS will contact applicants by email to confirm receipt of completed applications. (Expect confirmation within one week of receipt of completed material.) Applicants who do not hear from IMS within the specified period can assume that their applications are incomplete. If you have any questions regarding the receipt of your application, contact KatarínaSzikhartová at the Slovakia headquarters.
Application Review
IMS forwards all completed applications to the Faculty of Hygiene and Ecology (FVHE) for further review.
Notification of Application Status
Applicants who receive acceptance letters may notice that their acceptance into FVHE is provisional. This means that admission into FVHE is dependent upon one or several factors, such as graduating from secondary school or demonstrating subject mastery in the basics of Biology and Chemistry. Some applicants who receive a provisional acceptance letter will be asked to register for the Premedical Preparation Course (see details below).

Entrance Exams
Entrance Exams are designed to demonstrate a student’s mastery of basic skills in Biology and Chemistry.
Students with a BSc degree or university-level course credit inLife Sciences (including IB or AP Biology and IB or AP Chemistry) may be exempt from the Entrance Exam requirement, depending on each individual case.
The exam is in English and questions are in “multiple choice” and/or “fill-in-the-blank” formats. Answers must be given in English. The prerequisite for taking the entrance exam is a high school certificate.
Exams are monitored and timed by FVHE representatives; students have approximately 2 hours to complete each exam. Download a list of exam topics covered on the entrance examinations, along with sample questions, by visiting the IMS website:
Entrance Exams are held twice a year. The exam will take place at various venues throughout Europe. The exact times and locations will be announced at the end of April, after the exam registration deadline. The exam in August will be held in Brno. The exact time and venue will be announced at the beginning of July, after the exam registration deadline. Visit or contact for an update on venues and times.
Completed exams will be sent directly to FVHE for evaluation. Applicants will be notified by email of the May exam results the second week of June 2012. Applicants who took the exam in August will receive results by email duringthe first week of September 2012. Applicants who fail the May exam can re-register for the August exam, or better yet, register for the Online Preparation Course to better prepare for the next exam.
Online Preparation Course
The University entrance exam is a standardized examination that students are required to pass in order to be accepted to the University. So, how can Students best prepare themselves for this examination? IMS designed an Online Preparation Course to help Students master basic concepts in Life Sciences focusing in the fields of Chemistry and Biology to pass the examination. This online PreparationCourse has proven results. We have helped students from around the world achieve their ideal scores with our instructive, effective and intensive training course. The Online Preparation Course is not only intended for students who already passed the entrance exam. It is also designed to cover main topics only briefly taught in the rigorous University course and therefore will help the student in the first year of studies. Based on data gathered, students who took the preparation course achieved higher test scores than students who did not take the preparation course.
The language of instruction is in English. Students will be able to make personal contact with expert teachers in order to allow for questions or comments. Each student will receive a personal username and password to access the online preparation course.
Students who pass the entrance exam and meet the minimum requirements for admission are guaranteed admission, if space is available, to the University degree programs.
How to Register for the OnlinePreparation Course
The preparation course fee is € 750 Euros. The application and entrance exam fees are waived for students who register for the preparation course.
