Parents:

The East Forsyth and West Forsyth High School Finance Academies are planning another exciting trip to New York City! We welcome the participation of any Finance Academy rising 11th and 12th graders interested in going. Here are some of the details:

What is the cost? As with any trip, it depends on how many people are actually going. In order to determine this number, we are requiring a $350 (checks or online payments ONLY.. NO CASH!) nonrefundable deposit due to Ms. Haymes by Friday, May 16. We will know the final cost of the trip on May 16.

In order to allow rising seniors first priority of trip spots, I will take rising senior payments ONLY until May 2. After May 2, the trip is open to rising juniors if there are spots available (which there usually is).

Basically, if enough students turn in deposits (minimum of 30) then the trip will make and the deposit is nonrefundable. If there are not enough deposits, or less than 30, I will refund all deposits and the trip is cancelled.

Here is the schedule of cost based on the number of people going based on our 2013 trip:

30-34: $795

35-39: $741

40-44: $705

45-48: $677 (price last year)

We are just starting to plan this trip, so I do not have exact costs yet. I can get those to you as soon as possible. I just wanted to let you know all this information enough in advance so you can start planning if you are interested in the trip. This gives you a good idea.

When is the trip? November 22-25, 2014. This date could change. I will keep you posted.

Since my child will miss two school days (Monday and Tuesday), are they excused? Yes, this is an excused trip in that your child may make up work missed as long as they tell their teachers ahead of time of their absence AND collect all make up work BEFORE they leave for the trip!

How are they traveling? By charter bus!

What will the room arrangements be? They will be placed 4 to a room.

What will we see there? On the back, please find a draft of the trip literary from 2013. Again, we are just starting to plan this trip so things can change, but we will probably do most of these same things. This is just to give you an idea.

What can my student gain from going? New York City is the business capital of the United States. Students will tour important places in the financial industry, as well as traditional landmarks of the Big Apple (i.e. Statue of Liberty and seeing a play on Broadway).

Can parents go as a chaperone? We welcome you to come with us; however you must pay the full price to go  Sponsored spots are reserved for school system employees for liability reasons (i.e. other teachers chaperoning).

What’s included in the trip price? The hotel, the bus, the tour guide in NYC, all activities (Broadway play, etc), and most meals. There are usually about 4 meals that are labeled “O.Y.O” on the agenda, which means they are fast food meals that the students pay for on their own.

Do rising seniors get first priority? Yes, they do. Seniors can turn in deposits from now until May 5. After May 2, I open up the trip to rising juniors.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Jennifer Haymes at . We look forward to it!

Sincerely,

Ms. Jennifer Haymes
