To Clubs competing in the Time Trial of the 45th Dublin Sculling Ladder:

Attached the final confirmed results. Once again many thanks to GSBC for hosting the event.

Congratulations on a great day's racing on Saturday, and many thanks for the support— another great entry.

The 12th Millennium Sculling Challenges (Belfast vs. Cork vs. Dublin v Limerick) were held in Belfast last month: the winners Michael Maher, Commercial and the DSL & Sheila Clavin, St Michael’s and LSL. Next year’s race will probably be held in September. this will involve the Overall Winner and the Fastest Woman of the DSL when the Ladder concludes at the end of March 2011.

The Time Trial is just the start of the new Ladder.

It now proceeds with Challenge Races:

Scullers above 40th position on the Ladder may challenge any of the three scullers above them ;

Scullers 40th and lower may challenge 6 above; scullers 100th and below may challenge up to ten places above them.

Every sculler is entitled to one Free Challenge per season.

All Challenge Races must be umpired and timed, and a report completed ad returned o the Secretary.

Having an umpire is essential, to liaise with other users of the river, to ensure safety and to keep an accurate record of results.

Report forms are available from me, or from the Dublin Municipal Rowing Centre. Completed Reports should be returned to the DMRC.

There were no challenge races last year, but the system is still there and the Overall Head of the Ladder and the Overall Fastest Women of the forty-fourth Ladder will not be decided until the last Saturday in March 2010.

All results have been rounded to the nearest half-second as usual. During October only, bracketed (marked =) scullers on the list above are treated as though on the same rung for challenging and being challenged — although all intermediate rungs count for those challenging past bracketed scullers. From November the brackets are removed, and the scullers will be in the order as printed, unless changes have happened in the meantime.

Statistics from this Time Trial:

The course was again at its full length this year.

Eleventh time to break 100 finishers, the fourth biggest entry to date.

44 women raced, the third biggest total to date,

Sean Jacob raced the fastest time of the day; and was Head of the Ladder for the seventh time; Claire Lambe was the Fastest Woman, for the first time.

The fastest Juniors were Patrick Hughes (now of DUBC), fourth overall; and Ruth Morris (Commercial).

A great day’s day's racing; although some difficulties as a result of the strong tail wind,

Section 1 at 10 am was by far the fastest of the day.

Anyone wanting copies of double runs may contact me or Micheal Johnston <> by e-mail.
