The D’Andrea Digest

August 8, 2014

What a fun first week! It is amazing how each day things run smoother than they did the day before. We have spent most of our time getting to know each other, the classroom procedures, and expectations. We have also been assessing students and gathering work samples. Next week we will begin using our Harcourt Reading program, start Spalding and have our first spelling test.

Thank you for classroom supplies/donations. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. I have been asked several times if there is anything else we need for our class and we can always use more. We do have “Fun Fridays”. If you would like to donate a snack for the entire class to use on Fun Fridays, the kids would love it! We already have had cheese crackers and graham crackers donated! Please remember all our second grades are nut- aware classes so snacks with peanut butter or other kinds of nuts aren’t allowed. Thanks!

I will be sending out a newsletter at the end of most weeks. I have heard back from most of you that you received my “test” email and I will send these newsletters over email so that we can save paper and printing costs. If you are receiving a printed copy of this, it means I have not heard back from your or you did not sign up to be on the email distribution list Please email me at if you would like to get on that list or change the one I am using to send information. I will also forward the Panther Press each week and any PTO news.

Spotlight on Spalding!

KTA-Sureno uses the Spalding Method for teaching spelling and grammar. We will explain it further at Curriculum Night but you can also check out our class website (address is at the top of this newsletter) for more details at any time. My webpage is going through a makeover, but Ms. Bertocchi’s webpage is loaded with lots of information and activities. http://www.kyrene.org/gberto . Once my page is up and running (hopefully next week) you will be able to go to my page too.
