The Curious George Cottage Artist Residency would be a dream! Like a vacation in my own backyard, I would revel in the time I would designate to making and creating art! Our lives get so busy and I find more and more I do not have (or allow) myself that time to commit to art. To really dig in.

Oh, I would dig in. Take time to breathe, create and reflect. I remember fondly my college years where my roommate would beg me to get out of my studio and just take a shower. I was just in the zone and when you reach that level of inspiration and productivity, it takes over and feeds your soul.

Curious George currently plays a big part in my life, as a mom to a three year old who adores George. So while I have a fine art degree, my recent work is whimsical and playful; very inspired by the wonder of being three and seeing the world through my son's eyes. I love nature and incorporating a little piece of New Hampshire into each piece I create.

Maybe it was the years I worked on scaffolding, painting my first murals as a teenager in public or the quick social aspect of face painting at festivals and events, but I work well with an audience (and enjoy working in front of a crowd.) I can also work independently, but if I am creating, I would gladly welcome onlookers and questions. I know I learn more myself working in that open, social environment. (Just yesterday in fact, I painted a live mural at UNH in front of 1,000 people!)

Aside from being excited to demo and share, I also look forward to sharing my skills and knowledge with all ages. Teaching is still relatively new to me and I want to learn and grow that aspect. Art is a journey that takes you to an unfamiliar place at times, and I would love the opportunity to share that experience with others. I know that I was not challenged or taught a lot creatively as a child (mostly due to budget and lack of opportunity), but when I was, those experiences were life altering for me. I want to be that life altering experience in as many people's lives as I can. There is nothing more gratifying than that sense of accomplishment and pride radiating from an artist when they have finished an art lesson or have found a new love in art.

As I am working on the teaching aspect, I would also like to create to give back. Inspired by this program and people, my vision is to create a colorful, multi media piece to gift to The Rej Center. Theme and design to be determined, but this would be a week-long creative project that I would create in the open and leave behind as a gift.

In terms of contributing back to the project and goals for the program, the first thought that comes to mind is identity. With my graphic design background, I would gladly assist in any setup of digital programs or designs, from brochures to posters if you would want the help. Being one that works well collaboratively, I also know I would be a great asset to the program with my feedback and ability to use my skills and resources to help improve in any way I can. I am a social media guru; any way that I could contribute on this front I would. Really, I am an open book and an open mind, with a willingness to share and help in any way.

Art is a language and if you do not use that language, you can become rusty. I look forward to greasing those wheels and all the possibility that could come from Curious George Artist Residency. Cheers to art!
