It is mandatory for all members to wear a protective helmet manufactured to the minimum specifications and bearing a CE mark AND either the BSI Kitemark, the SAI Global symbol or the official Snell label with number. The CE symbol on its own is insufficient. The PAS015:1998 and the Snell E2001 meet higher impact criteria and therefore give more protection.

As from 2008 a jockey skull cap with no fixed peak must be worn for all cross-country riding. This will include Pony Club Novice (3), Intermediate (4) and Open (5) Levels. Also, it is intended to cover Junior Tetrathlon and Senior Hunter Trials. However, it is recommended that jockey skulls should be worn by those jumping cross country fences at all levels. It may be appropriate for children under 9yrs old to wear a lighter weight hat due to their neck muscles not being adequately developed to support a heavy helmet

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT HATS SHOULD BE RENEWED AFTER ANY FALL CAUSING SEVERE IMPACT

AND SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 3-5 YEARS DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF USE.

IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT SECOND HAND HATS ARE NOT PURCHASED

GENERAL

Jewellery- must NOT be worn in the interests of safety during mounted activities, other than a

wristwatch, wedding ring and a horizontal stock pin.It is recommended that stock pins are

removed for Cross Country. Members who are contemplating piercing their ears or any other part of their body should be aware that they will not be allowed to compete until such time as the “sleepers” can safely be removed. The reason for this is that sleepers have in the past caused injuries following falls. There are vulnerable blood vessels behind the ear and if the facial nerve is pierced partial paralysis of the face can occur.

Hair – in the interest of safety long hair should be secured appropriately with dark coloured

Ties or PC scrunchies. Hair nets should be worn with long hair or hair should be neatly tied back.

Make-Up is considered unsuitable at Pony Club.

Parents will be asked to sign a Disclaimer Form should a child not be wearing an approved Hat

or Body Protector.

Medical Armbands are recommended at all times and compulsory for all Pony Club Cross

Country phases.

Body Protectors:The Pony Club does not make the use of body protectors compulsory, except for all cross country riding and Pony Racing whether it be training or competing. The responsibility for choosing body protectors and the decision as to their use must rest with Members and their parents. It is recommended that a rider’s body protector should not be more than 2% of their bodyweight. It is strongly advised that all Body Protectors are fitted by a BETA qualified fitter.Air jackets are permissible, but must be worn over a body protector

COMPETITIONS: Additional or different dress requirements for competitions may be
