THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WOOLWICH

The Township of Woolwich, neighbouring the Cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge in the Region of Waterloo, has the following position available:

MUNICIPAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/CANINE CONTROL OFFICER

The Municipal Law Enforcement Officer/Canine Control Officer will enforce all Township by-laws, perform field investigations and follow-up actions necessary to achieve compliance, and will patrol the Township for areas of pro-active enforcement and health and safety issues. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of by-law enforcement and animal control, and will carry out patrols using their own personal vehicle or a vehicle supplied by the Township. You will be responsible for a wide variety of duties including the review and maintenance of municipal policies and by-laws, presentation of reports to Council, satisfactory complaint resolution, sign removal, parking tickets and Provincial Offences Notices, laying Informations, preparation of prosecution packages and attendance at Court. You will liaise with zoning, planning, building and fire services staff, communicate with various other agencies and with the Township’s contracted legal services.

Your noted strengths are customer service and interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, computer proficiency and project management skills. You are able to respond effectively to many types of by-law complaints including those concerning dogs, parking, noise, licensing, property standards, zoning, signs and snowmobiles. You are able to offer the Township a flexible shift that may, at times, include evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, and several weeks of night shift each winter to enforce the overnight parking ban. You possess a valid Class G Ontario Drivers License.

Able to work independently, you have completed a two-year college program in law and security or the equivalent and/or MLEOA and Property Standards Certification. You will have two to three years of progressive experience in by-law enforcement and a thorough knowledge of Provincial legislation including the Dog Owners’ Liability Act. Preference will be given to applicants with court experience. The Township of Woolwich offers a comprehensive compensation package, including pension and health benefits. A satisfactory Police Records Check is a condition of employment.

SalaryRange: $56,051 – $68,355
