Victor Kumar called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

Election of Chair

The floor was opened to nominations for the position of Chair. Lyle Olsen volunteered his name to stand for the position for a 4-month period, only. Having no other nominations, Lyle Olsen was elected, by a show of hands, to the position of Chair.

MOE Presentation

Paul Willis of the Ministry of the Environment made a presentation reporting on recent results and future plans for air quality monitoring in the Grand Forks area.

Objection from the Industry was made prior to the presentation, to the media being present. Jim Sinclair from the Grand Forks Gazette then left the meeting and the presentation proceeded.

Paul Willis stated that the report was not yet ready for release to the public as it was still in the preliminary stage.

Election of Recording Secretary

The floor was opened for the election of a Recording Secretary. Hearing no nominations, Chris Moslin let his name stand for the position.

Discussions

The location for the placement of TEOM was discussed. MOE stated that they have looked for locations and that there a couple of sites that they are looking at.

They hope to have the TEOM in place by this fall.

Michelle Caskey from the B.C. Lung Association stated that a representative from the association was available to attend the next Air Quality committee meeting to make a presentation.

The consensus of those present, was that the committee was not yet ready to invite any presentations, at this time.

Committee Terms of Reference

It was determined that a Facilitator would be required to formulate a mandate for the Air Quality Committee.

Next Meeting

Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Omega Restaurant was scheduled for an extra ordinary meeting to set up the terms of reference for the committee.

The meeting adjourned at 5:00pm.
