The Cook Canyon Ranch Scholarship Guidelines

Ranger High School

Objective: The Rees-Jones Foundation has established a scholarship, to be named the Cook Canyon Ranch Scholarship, to provide financial assistance to Ranger High School graduates who have a strong desire to continue their education, who have demonstrated academic skill, and who have a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

Monies will be managed and distributed by the Ranger High School Scholarship Fund according to the criteria below. Monies will be distributed directly to the college, university or trade school selected by the recipient. The award is a scholarship in an amount up to $5,000 per year as needed to cover tuition, fees, books and room and board and is available for up to four years, provided the student is enrolled full-time and maintains a GPA of 2.5 in the first year and 3.0 for each semester thereafter.

Criteria:

1.  The student may use the scholarship funds to continue his or her education at a two-year college, four-year college or university or trade school. The funds may be used for tuition, fees, room, board and/or books.

2.  Financial need for scholarship funding will be taken into account as one criteria in awarding the scholarships.

3.  The student must agree to enroll in a full college course load (a minimum of 12 hours per semester). The recipient must submit proof of full-time enrollment to the Ranger I.S.D. superintendent’s secretary before the first semester scholarship funds will be distributed.

4.  The student must maintain a GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale during his or her freshman year in order to receive the scholarship funds for their sophomore year. The student must then maintain a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale for each semester in order to continue receiving the scholarship for up to three more years of college education. The student must submit a transcript and proof of full-time enrollment in order to receive the funds each semester.

5.  The student must agree to keep the Ranger I.S.D. superintendent’s secretary and The Rees-Jones Foundation updated on his or her progress at the end of each semester.

Selection Process:

Each year, the Ranger I.S.D. administrations will choose three candidates and then send the candidates’ packages to The Rees-Jones Foundation for final selection. The candidates’ packages will include the application, two letters of recommendation from Ranger High School teachers, the FAFSA form, and the required essay. The Rees-Jones Foundation representatives may or may not ask to interview the candidates. The recipient will be determined by The Rees-Jones Foundation.
