Brief Introduction to Foshan
Foshan is located in the central southern part of Guangdong Province and the central part of Pearl River Delta, with five districts under its jurisdiction: Chancheng, Nanhai, Shunde, Gaoming and Sanshui. The total area of Foshan is 3797.72 square kilometers; the number of its permanent residents is 7.23 million. For many years, Foshan has been promoting the all-around development of various social undertakings, with “Improving people’s welfare” as the tenet and “Establishing itself as a prosperous and happy city where the people are well-off” as the goal. It has been successively awarded the following honorable titles: UN Excellent Model City in Human Settlements, National Famous Historical and Cultural City, National Sanitary City, National Garden City, National Clean City, National Model City in Environmental Protection, National Model City in Technological Progress, Chinese Excellent Tourist City, Chinese City with Brand Economy, and Chinese City with the Most Intense Feel of Happiness.
Foshan is an influential industrial city and famous manufacturing city which is cored with industry and characterized by the co-development of three major industries. In 2011, the GDP of Foshan is RMB660 billion Yuan, an increase of 12.1%, ranking the 3rd place in Guangdong Province and the 12th place among all medium and large cities in China; its total output value of industry is RMB1780 billion Yuan, an increase of 18% over the previous year, ranking the 5th place among all medium and large cities in China. Specialized work division, industrialized collaboration and concentrative development are distinct characteristics of the industries in Foshan. The industrial system in Foshan is sound and equipped with complete supporting facilities, covering almost all manufacturing industries. The following ten major advantageous traditional industries have been formed here: household electric appliance, mechanized equipment, metal material processing & products, ceramics & building material, textile & garment, electronic information, food & beverage, plastic products, chemicals & pharmacy and furniture. A number of strategic emerging industries such as optical electricity, new materials, new energy, energy-saving & environmental protection and new pharmacy are undergoing rapid development
In 2012, focusing on the main task——fastening the transformation of economic development mode, Foshan Municipal Party Committee and Foshan Municipal People’s Government proposed to intensify all-around investment promotion for industrial chain, find out the accurate emerging strategic industries with developmental priority for the purpose of “chain development”, conduct “chain supplementation” for the lacked linkages in the existing industrial chain, and enhance the existing advantageous industrial chain through improving technology, finance, informationization and brand guidance, so as to promote the integration of industry, technology, informationization, culture and finance and to stimulate the industrial chain in Foshan to stretch towards both ends of smile curve by means of targeted project introduction and linkage, thus achieving vigorous economic development.
To facilitate investment promotion for industrial chain, governments at all levels in Foshan have positively converted their functions and created an investment environment that can benefit, facilitate, assure, support and enrich merchants and a political environment that conforms to laws and is efficient, clean, transparent and standardized.
