Schedule Announced for 5th Annual Mike Miller Classic
Eleven schools to participate in expanded tournament that includes
new location and additional tournament

After four years playing exclusively at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota, the 5th Annual Mike Miller Classic will feature not only a second location, but an additional tournament as well. This year’s Classic - presented by First Dakota National Bank in conjunction with the Mike Miller Foundation – will be held December 27th and 29th. On Thursday, the same day Mike Miller’s Cleveland Cavaliers tip off their 2014-15 NBA season, the Mike Miller Foundation announced the complete schedule for the 5th Annual Classic.

Session 1 on Saturday the 27th will take place at the Corn Palace, while Sessions 2 and 3 will be at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls on Monday the 29th. This will be the first time the Classic will be held anywhere other than the Corn Palace.

Eleven schools from five states will participate in the two-day festivities. Six schools will represent the host state of South Dakota, with two from Mitchell (Mitchell High School, Mitchell Christian High School) and four from Sioux Falls (Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington, O’Gorman). There will also be two schools from Minnesota, both from Minneapolis (Patrick Henry, DeLaSalle).

This year’s Classic will also involve one school each from Tennessee (Evangelical Christian School – Cordova), Indiana (La Lumiere – LaPorte) and Nevada (Findlay Prep – Henderson). ECS and Coach Terry Tippett will be led by senior guard Marcus Lytle and junior guard Mitch Weatherford. La Lumiere’s Coach Shane Heirman will lean on senior guard Jalen Coleman, junior center Isaac Humphries, junior forward Nolan Narain, junior forward Brandon Cyrus, senior guard Drew Cayce, senior forward Alex Olesinski and senior guard Munis Tutu. Coach Andy Johnson’s Findlay Prep has a record of 223 – 14 since the beginning of the 2007-2008 season. The school has won three of the last six National Championships and has been to the Final 4 twice.Findlay Prep has had nine McDonald All Americans and seven Findlay Prep Pilots have played in the NBA.

The 5th Annual Mike Miller Classic will include the inaugural “Coach Gary Munsen Tournament,” named after Miller’s renowned former coach. The Tournament will feature two games during Session 1, with one more game during Session 2 and Session 3 both. On Saturday, December 27th (Session 1), Sioux Falls Washington will face Evangelical Christian School, followed by Mitchell High School taking on DeLaSalle.

Coach Gary Munsen is one of South Dakota’s most prolific basketball coaches, having coached boys basketball for 46 years – 42 as head coach, the last 39 for state-power Mitchell. Coach Munsen is second in South Dakota state history for boys basketball coaching wins.
