CHECK EACH CRITERION YOU HAVE ADHERED TO.
1 – Format
- Header in top right corner: last name and page number (should repeat on the second page)
- Heading in top left (but not in the “header”) Your name, class name, my name, date due (14 December 2012)
- Double spaced
- Margins are consistent
- There are five paragraphs
2 – Introductory paragraph (pgh 1)
- A catchy introductory sentence to grab the reader’s interest
- A sentence or two that include recognition of differences between the myth and the fairy tale.
- A thesis statement that includes the three areas of comparison/similarity (e.g. the call to adventure, helpers, the boon that helps the community back in the everyday world) -- Underline it by hand.
3 – First supporting paragraph (pgh 2)
- Topic sentence that reflects the first area of similarity/comparison– Underline it by hand.
- At least two sentences of specific support from the hero myth
- At least two sentences of specific support from the fairy tale
- A concluding sentence
4 – Second supporting paragraph (pgh 3)
- Topic sentence that reflects the second area of similarity/comparison– Underline it by hand.
- At least two sentences of specific support from the hero myth
- At least two sentences of specific support from the fairy tale
- A concluding sentence
5 – Third supporting paragraph (pgh 4)
- Topic sentence that reflects the third area of similarity/comparison – Underline it by hand.
- At least two sentences of specific support from the hero myth
- At least two sentences of specific support from the fairy tale
- A concluding sentence
6 – Conclusion (pgh 5 )
- Is at least 3 sentences long
- Reflects the introduction
- Ends with a strong statement
7 – Mechanics
- Don’t use “you”
- Check that you’ve kept to one tense: don’t mix past and present tenses without a really good reason!
- No run-on sentences or comma splices
- No sentence fragments
- Spelling is correct
