Auditions for November 2007 production

Auditions will be held at Quarndon Church Hall on Thursday 16th August. The final choice of play depends on the number and mix of actors available, so the audition will be a selection of pieces and Jan will choose the play after the audition process is complete. If you are interested in auditioning and have not contacted Jan, please do so as soon as you can (01332 552244 or email .

Stage Management: we urgently need someone to come forward for the Stage Manager role for the November production, principally to lead the construction of the set. If you can fulfil this very important backstage part, again please contact Jan (details above) or any committee member.

Help: QUADS members will be helping with some other aspects of production, but more help is needed! Please let Jan or any of the committee know if you can help in any way to support the production.

The Hired Man, New Perspectives Theatre, Wednesday 3rd October 2007, Quarndon Village Hall, Doors open 7.15pm

The New Perspectives Theatre Group are touring the musical ‘The Hired Man’ with over 50 dates across the East Midlands and nationally. There are appearing at the Church Hall as a fundraising event for QUADS - we should make a good profit from ticket sales, the bar (organised by Simon Carr) and raffle.

Full details of the show are on the website, some snippets below.

The Hired Man by Melvyn Bragg & Howard Goodall

The Hired Man, arguably the finest new British musical of the last thirty years, acclaimed for its epic, nostalgic, funny book and rousing, romantic, award-winning score, is now on tour in the UK for the very first time.

Set in rural Cumbria in the early years of the twentieth century, The Hired Man tells the timeless, moving story of a young married couple and their struggle to carve a living from the land, just as the traditional rhythms of English country life are being interrupted by the gathering storm of war in Europe – haunting, thrilling, stirring stuff.

Image above is the design model of the dramatic stage set for ‘The Hired Man’.

Tickets are £7.50 (£5 students & 14+ children). Performance is Wednesday 3rd October.Doors open 7.15pm, curtain up at 8pm, bar open before the show.

Seating is on first come, first served basis.

Tickets are available from Sophie Snell, 71 Burley Lane, Quarndon, DE22 5JR.

QUADS website

QUADS now have a website I set this up with the aims of:

-attracting new members

-increasing ticket sales at productions (well attended, but more seats sold => more £££)

-improving communication within QUADS.

We’ve already had several potential members contact Jan and Marilyn after seeing the website. I am hoping they will go to the audition for the Nov play or perhaps one of the social events.

Ticket sales: I have found a number of places to advertise productions online free. As soon as the next play is finalised, I will submit details to these and add a description of the play to the website.

Thanks for reading as far as this - see you at the next event.
